Happy Sunday! Since the weather was bipolar yesterday, our date may be happening today. Fingers crossed. Have a great day 🙂
I woke up Saturday and when I got out of bed my legs felt heavy but not terrible. Thankfully, I had a two mile recovery run for the day. Instead of pushing my recovery pace, I let my legs pick the pace that felt good to them. While it was a little discouraging in a way to see my pace was a full minute slower than it was on Friday’s 6 miles, I knew it was what my body needed. After stretching, Alex and I had a breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon which hit the spot.
Saturday mornings are when I like to go to the grocery store because it feels a lot less crowded than Sunday mornings. When I got home, I started to get hungry. After putting the groceries away I got to work on lunch. I cut up a carrot to have with spicy hummus from Sabra along side a grilled cheese.
After lunch, I started my next book. “All is Vanity” by Christina Schwartz follows two lifelong best friends Margaret and Letty. Margaret lives in New York City with her husband and is trying to write her first novel. Letty lives near Los Angeles with her husband and four children. Margaret starts to take stories from Letty to use in her book. The synopsis on the book cover makes it seem like something happens that has bad consequences for Letty and I’m interested to see what happens.
Alex and I are currently doing a 30 days of no alcohol challenge so our seltzer consumption has skyrocketed. We used to get a case and it would get us through a week, sometimes longer, but since we started this we have to get a case and a few extra bottles mid-week. Seltzer was 2 for $1 so a case ended up being $6 instead of $9.60. I told Alex I was tempted to buy more cases and he said we should. So back to the store we went. When I saw we have 48 bottles of seltzer in our fridge and closet, I’m not kidding! We love the Vintage brand and usually get pomegranate, mandarin orange, raspberry or lemon lime flavored cases. If you like seltzer and see Vintage at a local store you should pick up a bottle.
As I had mentioned on yesterday’s post, Alex had a date planned for us today. We started planning monthly date nights for each other after we moved in so we had fun things to do each month. The weather forecast called for rain on Saturday the whole week. It never rained but the weather was gray then a little sunny then gray again all day. It was like mother nature could not make up her mind! When we left for the grocery store, we decided to just postpone the date until Sunday instead. So of course that meant that when we got home the sun came out and it was a beautiful day. We had joked earlier how that would happen so mother nature was just laughing us after that.
For dinner we pulled out the George Forman (we can’t have an actual grill in our apartment) and grilled bratwursts. I grew up eating brats all the time in summer and have definitely missed them this year. Give me a grilled brat with some mustard and I’m a happy camper!. I roasted some broccoli and a potato to have plus my normal salad. It hit the spot and filled me up.
When we finished dinner, I read on the couch a little more. Alex asked if I wanted to watch “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” with him and I said yes. Earlier in the day we bought a frozen apple pie and baked it. Since it had to cool we had it as our dessert/movie snack. It was delicious! Even if the slices didn’t actually work so we scooped it out of the tin instead. We planned on having it with ice cream but it was a little too messy without ice cream so we skipped adding a scoop. We finished the movie then called it a night.
Question of the day: Do you like pie with or without ice cream? For me it depends on the type of pie.
