Pool Day And Sushi

Sunday started off bright and early for me. Well technically it was dark and early since my body was wide awake at 5:22 am. I have no clue why and while I enjoy waking up early, before 6 am on a weekend is too early for me. I moved from the bed to the couch (I didn’t want to wake Alex) to watch a little tv and see if it would put me back to sleep. Unfortunately it didn’t so I was ready to start the dat.Β Alex made pancakes and bacon for breakfast which was a nice way to start the day since I didn’t have to cook. Thanks babe πŸ™‚

Of course I forgot two things at the grocery store and Target. Luckily I wanted to run out to Dick’s Sporting Goods to grab some different energy gels for runs. My coach recommended a few different brands so I grabbed three to try over my next few long runs. I ended up buying two gels from Power Bar in the Β berry blastΒ andΒ strawberry bananaΒ flavors. I also grabbed a packet of the Honey Stinger energy chews in theΒ pomegranate passionfruitΒ flavor. When I try them out I will be sure to report back with what worked and what I liked!


When I got home, I put some stuff away and then relaxed for a bit. Alex got home from power washing his parents house right around the time when I started to get hungry. I threw in some leftover roasted potatoes to have for lunch while making a sandwich for Alex. Once we finished eating, I folded the laundry and got my stuff ready for the pool. We finally finished “The Founder”. If you like movies based on true stories, it’s a great one.


Alex was meeting his dad and brother to play 9 holes of golf so I met his mom and sister by the pool. It was such a nice day so I was not complaining about spending it by the pool. I brought “The Obsession” to finish and was so close to doing so but after two dips in the pool I couldn’t. I brought a bag of strawberries and grapes with me to snack on.

When we got home, we decided to re-watch “Burn Notice”. If you’ve never heard of it, the show was on USA Network. It follows Michael Westin who is a burned CIA agent. A burned agent means that his cover has been blown so they can no longer work. There’s some action and the overall storyline comes up in every episode but isn’t the focus which I like.


When I was planning our meals for the week, Alex requested sushi. After spending the afternoon sitting in the sun I was very happy we planned to get takeout so it was a relaxing, cooking free night. I got an order of miso soup and an avocado cucumber roll. Maybe because this is only the second time I’ve had a roll, I was surprised to see that I was full for the entire night! If I’m being honest, I thought I was going to need a snack during “Game of Thrones” to feel full but nope! Also that episode was…yeah. I have some thoughts ha! When the episode ended, I think I was asleep within 60 seconds of getting into bed which signals a good day to me.

  1. Yum I love sushi! We used to live in Jacksonville FL and they had such great seafood πŸ™‚
    My preferred fuel for long runs (over 10 miles) is gummy bears, shot bloks chews, and honey stinger chews. Have a great day!

    I’ve had a pretty mean craving for sushi lately, but for some reason I’ve been holding off (not cool). Maybe because I know I’ll be on the west coast next week and will be having sushi and fish every daayyyyy. Your day by the pool with the ladies sounds glorious.

      Since I don’t eat seafood (the taste grosses me out) I’m glad I found some sushi I’ll eat so my boyfriend can get his sushi fix in. I bet your trip to the west coast will be full of sushi and fish which seems to be exactly what you want.

  3. Not a bad weekend! Except waking up that early kind of stinks! At least the day started with pancakes πŸ˜€ Coffee is my fuel of choice πŸ˜‰ But I think if I were still going on major long runs I would probably invest in some gels! Have a great week!!

    1. The pancakes were even better since I didn’t cook them πŸ˜‰ It was a fun weekend. I don’t like coffee but I do enjoy tea in the morning. Except I would have to stop for bathroom breaks if I used that as my pre-run fuel.

  4. I would love a pool day! My swollen legs definitely would, lol. My favorite running fuel is Jelly Belly Sports Beans. I’ve been using them since I started running long, and I also used dried mango when I was starting out!

    1. Go find a pool and relax those legs! I saw those when I was looking at fuel options. I might try them out if the ones I bought don’t work well for me. I love dried fruit but I would probably eat it all before I even got to my long runs lol. Have a great Monday πŸ™‚

  5. Happy Monday! Sushi sounds so good right now, haha. I may have to request that for dinner this week, though my husband isn’t a huge fan. I think I can convince him if we find a place that serves Chinese, too!

    I’m so jealous you got to lay out by the pool! My parents used to have a pool and I miss sitting out in the sun near the water on a summer day!

    1. I’m not a huge fan of sushi either but I eat it to make Alex happy since he really enjoys it. Most of the menus I’ve seen have teriyaki or tempura on the menu as well if your husband likes that!

      I’m very lucky that the golf club his dad belongs to has a pool. It was the perfect day for it since it wasn’t too hot. Have a great day Allie πŸ™‚
