Back To The Basics

It’s hump day! I think Wednesdays are my favorite day of the work week since it’s halfway to the weekend. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day 🙂

** Edited at 8:30 am – I am personally having issues commenting on other blogs so I apologize if you have issues commenting here! I honestly don’t know what is going on or what is causing the problem. **

I was in a slump for breakfast yesterday morning. Nothing sounded that appealing when I walked downstairs for breakfast. Alex suggested cereal and since we don’t really buy cereal I figured it would be a nice change. Special K with strawberries was poured and was tasty. Typing this now makes me think that cereal is probably a good staple to have and I can’t remember the last time I even bought a box of it. Weird.

Lunch was back to the same old basic – but delicious – peanut butter sandwich. It felt good to be back to my usual lunch routine. There’s yogurt in the fridge that’s going to go bad soonish so I grabbed it to enjoy as my afternoon snack. I prefer my Oikos triple zero over this but the flavor was good!

New Jersey got some rain from Hurricane Jose yesterday. The storm is pretty farm off the coast so the rain wasn’t too bad but it was between a drizzle and light rain during my run. I really need to start wearing a hat when it rains so I’m not squinting to see. When I got home, I sat down to stretch and Annie came right up to lay down by me. Y’all it’s going to be so hard to leave them! I joke that Annie is now my bff since she seems to enjoy following me around the second I give her attention. Alex and I really have puppy fever now too so it’s only a matter of time. Also if anyone has recommendations for a supportive sports bra let me know in the comments please! I need some new ones.

After my shower, Alex and I hung out a bit before it was time for dinner. Dinner was back to the basics and we have leftovers. We’ve been using the grill so much that we had a ton of tupperware containers of leftovers in the fridge. We hate wasting food (who doesn’t) so we heated them up. I had some roasted potatoes, broccoli, and chicken. I originally heated up some pork but when I tasted it, something was off so I threw it out and that is why I have dinner on two plates.

Since the weather was pretty blah, Alex and I cuddled up on the couch to finish both “Scooby-Doo” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. During the last 45 minutes or so of Fantastic Beasts, I grabbed a small bowl of popcorn to munch on. When we finished Fantastic Beasts, Alex and I agreed that we liked it more after watching it in entirety than we did after the first part we watched the other night. We also said that maybe it was because we lowered our expectations knowing it wasn’t going to be Harry Potter good. If you have been questioning watching it, I just caution to not think it will be HP good. After our little movie marathon, we headed up to bed.

Question of the day: When you go back to the basics for meals, what does that look like for you?

  1. Moving comfort from Brooks!! Best sports bras ever – they have so many different styles based on the level of support you’re looking for.
My basic lunch is PB&J all the way! So simple but so good!
    Enjoy your day 🙂

    1. I’ve heard good things about the Juno sports bra from Brooks and will definitely look into the moving comfort style! Thank you so much for the suggestion.
PB&J (if the jelly is homemade because apparently I’m high maintenance like that) is so good. I still eat a PB sandwich for lunch all the time. Have a great day Erinn!

  2. Cereal is the best breakfast, especially if it has protein and you add fruit 😛

And I also love Oikos Triple Zero yogurts!

A “back to the basics” meal for me is definitely Annie’s mac n cheese with peas!!

    1. I love mac n cheese! The white cheddar one from Annie’s is my favorite from that brand for sure. I have yet to find a yogurt I like better than Oikos Triple Zero, the consistency is the best in my opinion.

I tried to comment on your post but for some reason, I’m having issues. If you have an iPhone there is a way to adjust what I think is called the exposure so that might help with your lighting issues.

      Have a great day Marina!

    1. Jelly can be too sweet in my opinion but I love a good old peanut butter sandwich! It’s what I eat for lunch at work all the time. I will! I’m sure it’ll take some trial and error but if I find some good ones, I will be sure to tell you.
      Have a great day 🙂

  3. I continue to be jealous of your grilling life!!
Basics for me= a lot of eggs, chicken breasts, lettuce, and maybe some cheerios. I’m gluten free so a lot of what other people consider basics doesn’t work for me, sadly!

    1. I haven’t looked into Oiselle but I keep seeing the brand on Instagram. I’ll check out their selection! Any in particular that you like best? I have some from Victoria’s Secret that I like but they’re just getting old so I need to replace some

  4. The first time my husband and I watched Fantastic Beasts, we thought it was okay, but not anything spectacular compared to Harry Potter. However, when we watched it a second time, we definitely enjoyed it more! I guess it’s just one of those films that grows on you. 😉 I was still thrilled to watch anything in the Harry Potter universe, though, so that helped, haha!

    1. I think we were just so excited for something to be HP related we were expecting it to be as good as HP. I was so happy when they brought up Hogwarts in the film! I saw on imdb that they’re making a second Fantastic Beasts so I hope it’ll be good too.

      1. I probably approached it the same way, especially since J.K. Rowling was so involved in the film and wrote the screenplay. Yes!! I love how it actually felt like just another part the magical world and connected to Harry Potter in various ways. For instance, I heard this theory that Dumbledore’s “sickly” sister actually was an Obscurial, which makes so much sense. I heard that it’s going to be several films, I think maybe a series? I’m excited to see where it goes!

      2. I had no idea J.K. Rowling was so involved in Fantastic Beasts! I knew she wrote the book under a different name but not the movie. Wait really? I didn’t hear that at all about his sister! It would be interesting if that was the case. I think there are so many fan theories though that it’s hard to tell what’s true and what is fake.

      3. I know, I was so excited when I learned she wrote the screenplay! I love hearing the fan theories, but it’s true, it’s hard to tell what’s true. Still, I’m so nerdy it makes me happy regardless, haha.
