Happy Thursday! Our mini vacation at Alex’s parents house is coming to an end today since his parents and sister arrive back in America this afternoon. It’s going to be sad not seeing the dogs everyday but luckily they’re close by. Have a great one 🙂
For some reason, I had a lot of time yesterday morning but I’m not complaining! When I walked downstairs, Alex was in the middle of making breakfast for us which was a nice bonus. He made bacon and scrambled eggs that I had while watching the news.
Work was a little slow but it happens. During lunch, I had my typical peanut butter sandwich, hummus, carrots and pretzels. You would think that after eating this lunch for years I would be sick of it but I’m not. I finished “Ghostwalk” by Rebecca Stott. The book is about a woman named Lydia Brooke who becomes a ghost writer to a book after the author is found dead. The author is an ex-lover’s mother that she befriended. The book Lydia is supposed to write is about Issac Newton and his ties to alchemy. The writing style was interesting since it’s telling the story but Lydia is also writing as a way to talk about what’s happening. Rebecca’s writing style was interesting but I felt like there was a lot of things that were implied and not explicitly stated which bothered me a bit.
After work, Alex and I went back to our apartment to wait for the new washer and dryer to be delivered. If you’ve been keeping track, it was 3.5 weeks that we were without it and having to go to his parents house to do laundry. The capacity of the machines are so much bigger and they’re silent. I’m also hoping it means that the dryer won’t make our apartment a sauna when it runs so we will have to wait to see.
I think the dogs were a little panicked that Alex and I weren’t coming home since they went nuts when we got back to the house. Annie grabbed her “bunny” and was running around with it. Bunny is actually just the mat near the kitchen sink but when she was a puppy she actually had a stuffed bunny. Alex says that bunny is now anything she will carry in her mouth. Since we were gone for a while, I whipped up a box of Kraft mac n cheese. Sometimes quick and easy trumps a super healthy meal.
A few days ago, Janae posted a picture of her baking sugar cookies with her kids. Well those cookies have been in my mind and I needed a distraction last night so I decided to bake them. The recipe claimed to make about 4 dozen cookies so I cut the recipe in half. It made over 30 cookies!! 30! This is probably the only cookie recipe that makes how many it claims to. Oddly enough, cutting the frosting recipe in half didn’t cover all of the cookies so I was only able to frost half of them. The cookie itself is delicious but I think frosting is a must for them.
By the time I finished baking, frosting and cleaning it was a little before 10. Alex and I put on “Arrested Development” and I fell asleep for part of it. Oops! I really need to get better about that so I don’t always need to catch up. After the episode finished, we went up to bed.
Question of the day: What’s your favorite thing to bake?
