Hi!! How is it already Monday morning? I feel like this weekend flew by. Does anyone else feel that way? Have a great day 🙂
Since I didn’t have a run on the agenda, I slept as long as my body would let me. That ended up being around 6:30am but I didn’t wake up to an alarm so I don’t care how early it was. Naturally our Sunday morning started out with waffles. I’m the resident waffle maker in our apartment while Alex makes the pancakes. We hadn’t had waffles in a while and they hit the spot. I paired it with a glass of milk and some cranberry green tea.
Alex needed a few more things for his new job this week so we decided to try our luck at the outlet mall. To avoid any crowds, we tried to get their right when the stores opened which worked out perfectly. I saw a few things I really liked but used self control and didn’t buy anything for myself. I did buy one thing though – a Christmas present for Alex. Yes, I am aware that it was September 24th when the purchase occurred and Christmas is three months away. It’s crazy, I know! Alex needed a new briefcase and I was already in the process of looking online for some I thought he would like. We went into Wilson’s Leather and found a bag over 65% off that he loved so I bought it for him. In our defense, he is starting a new job in the city and his old briefcase had a small hole and a backpack would be unprofessional. It was his lucky day that he got it now since I planned on just keeping it and wrapping it up for him anyways. He absolutely loves it which makes my heart very happy 🙂
We stopped by Target on the way home for milk and a new external hard drive for Alex. On an unrelated note, you should totally get an external hard drive for you computer. It’ll save everything if your computer crashes! When we got home we made some sandwiches for lunch. I had ham and white American cheese for mine and paired it with some popcorn. It was another hot day in New Jersey (over 85 degrees!) and we were tired from walking around the outlet mall. We put on an episode of “Burn Notice” and hung out on the couch for a bit.
My nails really needed some tlc so I painted both my hands and feet. I chose a teal for both. On my toes, it’s a polish from Ulta called “Dance Teal Done”. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s available anymore but this one from Sally Hansen is similar. On my fingers, I put “Ocean Love Potion” on from the Sephora by O.P.I collection. Apparently they don’t even make this brand anymore, who knew! I found another O.P.I color that is pretty close if you are interested. P.S. does anyone else wonder how they come up with the names for nail polish colors?
Then it was time to clean out the closet, very thrilling I know 😉 It wasn’t even my part which seemed easier to go through. I think next time I want to go through my clothes, I’ll have Alex help me. Alex wanted someone else’s opinion on what shirt and tie combos go together. The best part of go through it all was that Alex rediscovered some shirts and we have more clothes to donate so everyone wins. Plus I learned how to sew a button back onto a men’s dress shirt which will come in handy again I’m sure.
Alex wanted to enjoy a drink on the porch outside since we had been going all day. He wanted to make a whiskey sour so we utilized the bar cart and he mixed them up. I had never had a whiskey sour before but it was good! For whiskey, I’m sure simple and if I do drink it (which is rare) I’ll go for Fireball or a Jack and Coke. Does Fireball even count as whiskey though, I feel like it’s just a sugary add in for fall drinks haha. Alex likes Maker’s Mark so that’s the whiskey we used and I could barely taste the whiskey which was good. It surprisingly doesn’t have that much alcohol in it which was perfect for an early Sunday night cocktail.
It was time for dinner after all of that. During the day, I had some southwestern chicken cooking in the crock pot so the only work I really had to do was make some rice. Since I felt like I hadn’t had many veggies during the day, I kind of wish we had some fresh broccoli to steam but we didn’t so it was just rice and chicken in our bowls. The meal is so tasty, easy to make, and there’s always leftovers for later in the week.
After that, we plopped on the couch for a documentary. We settled on the mini docuseries about World War II. It was called “Five Came Back” and was about five Hollywood directors that enlisted in the armed forces to film the war. It is told with five directors from now and narrated by Meryl Streep. We watched the first of three episodes. The first was a lot more background information on the directors and Hollywood’s and America’s view on the war before Pearl Harbor happened. It ended with some of them joining the war and I can’t wait to watch the rest of it. We also ate some sugar cookies while we watched then headed to bed after it.
Question of the day: Do you feel like you eat less fruits and vegetables on the weekends?
