Not Every Book Is A Winner

Hello and happy Saturday! What are your plans for the day? Have a great day 🙂

I got up relatively easy yesterday morning and got ready for work. On Thursday night, I prepped overnight oats and added a tiny bit of cocoa powder as a treat. It was delicious! The weather is finally getting cooler so I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be having overnight oats for 😦 They are seriously one of my favorite breakfast options.

During lunch at work, I started a new book called “Golden Hill” by Francis Spufford. It’s set in New York City one century before the Revolutionary War. I wish I could tell you more about what’s it about but I can’t. By about 30 pages in, I was not interested at all. Instead of wasting my time on a book, I decided to just stop reading it. A few years ago, my Grandma told me that if a book doesn’t catch her attention by page 50 she stops reading it because “There are too many good books to waste time reading a bad one”. I live by this now and if I’m not interested, I move on.

After work, I was craving something good to read since I didn’t get my reading in for the day. I grabbed the newest novel by Fredrik Backman, “Beartown”. I read “A Man Called Ove” on my Grandma’s recommendation (my family is full of readers!) and really enjoyed it. This book caught my eye at the library the other day in the new book section so I grabbed it. I’m not far at all, about 40 pages, but it’s good so far! It follows a few different characters in a tiny town near a forest. Once I read some more, I will let you know how I feel about it.

When I texted Alex during the day about what we should have for dinner and he requested broccoli, sausage and cavatelli pasta dish. I wanted to try a new recipe but I figured we would both be happy by a tried and true tonight and a new recipe this weekend. I got to work on cooking all of the ingredients. While eating, we said how this dish will probably be a staple now that it’s getting colder. I could probably even add a few more veggies to it to amp that part of it up.

Don’t let his face fool you, he does love me

Alex randomly asked me if I had any of those nose strip things, meaning a pore strip. I told him yes, do you want to do it. He said yes and I held him to it. After dinner, I showed him how to use them and he even let me put the picture up ha! He definitely gets points for this you guys. The rest of the night was spent hanging out on the couch reading. I know we are party animals 😉

Question of the day: What’s one thing on your agenda for the weekend? I want to know!

  1. That’s exactly what my future MIL told me she does with books too and I’ve really picked up the habit as well. I’m in California hanging out with my sister and her family this weekend, it’s been lovely.
