A Speed Workout + Chicken Fingers

Happy Tuesday! How was your Monday? Mine was pretty good. Have a great day πŸ™‚

Monday started out nice and early with the usual 5:15am alarm. I’ll admit that I was much more inclined to lay in bed then to get up but I eventually got my booty out of bed. I showered and got ready for work. Alex kept out a cinnamon raisin bagel to eat with his eggs so I took half of it to eat with my egg. When we were buying the bagels, I thought they were plain cinnamon and didn’t realize it had raisins in it. The raisins were good and added a nice sweetness to it!

Work went by fast. I had some pictures to upload and sort through as well as travel to book so the morning flew by for me! It was quite rainy yesterday in the morning so I was obsessively checking the weather online to see if it would be raining during my run. Luckily it stopped around lunch so I was antsy during the afternoon just in case it started raining again.

Once work was over, I quickly headed home so that I could get my run in before dark. My workout was 6 x 600m with a 200m recovery after them. Overall the workout went great! Until the last two repeats. A woman at the park had on WAY too much perfume, I could smell her well before I would run by her. Yes I did wear shorts again but I had on calf socks and a long sleeve so I wasn’t that crazy!

When I got home, I stretched and foam rolled. My legs needed it. For some reason, my calves have been pretty tight the past few days even though I’ve been stretching them. I’m hoping the feeling goes away soon. To refuel me, I cut a big piece of pumpkin bread to enjoy (recipe will be up tomorrow morning).

Alex got home shortly after I showered so we chatted for a bit while getting our lunches ready for work. I totally forgot that Alex will be home tomorrow since he has a work event in Philadelphia at night and made him a sandwich. Oops! Now his lunch his already made. When that was cleaned up and lunches were put away, I started on dinner.

For dinner, I tried making baked chicken fingers. It worked out well! I used Italian bread crumbs and added a few spices to it kick the flavor up a bit. While the chicken baked in the oven, I made rice pilaf. I meant to make broccoli as well but forgot until I was putting dinner on plates. My bran was so off last night between that and the sandwich. Even without the broccoli, dinner was delicious. I put some barbecue sauce and hot sauce on my plate to dip the chicken into.

After dinner, I got comfy on the couch to write this blog post as well as the bread recipe. Once that was done, I read more of my book. I’m a over halfway throughΒ “Leaving Time”Β by Jodi Picoult. Once I’m done I will give final thoughts but I’m enjoying the story so far. I made some sleepytime tea to enjoy while I read. Does anyone else think this puts them to sleep? Maybe I don’t understand the point of it but it just kind of relaxes me instead of making my sleepy.

Question of the day: Did you workout yesterday? If so, let me know what it was!

  1. I bet your calves are tight from the cold weather! My legs are always tighter after a run in the cold…
I did my Legs and Cardio BBG workout yesterday and my legs are feeling it today!

    1. I never thought that the weather would affect why my calves are tight! Thank you for sharing that tidbit with me Erinn!
I remember how jell-o like my legs would feel after the leg circuit of BBG. Good for you for sticking with it πŸ™‚

  2. The baked chicken fingers look and sound incredible! I feel like that would really hit the spot right now. I know what you mean about perfume, one time my sister and I were at the gym and this woman got on a machine near us, and we were choking from her perfume!

    1. They were so good and easy! I need to perfect the spices I add to the breadcrumbs though so I get the right amount of flavor. I was dying from it! All I wanted to do was run away lol. It made breathing so hard whenever I was near her.

  3. I hate taking a big deep breath when I’m running, and smelling something bad. Whenever I go for a run in the city, I always end up taking a giant whiff of trash.

I didn’t work out yesterday, but I’m doing Crossfit tonight. It’s a 30 minute partner workout where we take turns completing 10 dumbbell snatches, 15 box jumps, and 15 sit ups. While one partner is doing that, the other rests, and then we switch.

    1. It’s seriously the worst when I get a whiff of something bad. I don’t understand how this woman had so much perfume and it didn’t affect her breathing! I felt the need to cough a ton.

I’ve heard so many good things about Crossfit. It sounds like it’ll be a killer workout!

  4. I had some chicken, too, but from Colonel Sanders! I did workout yesterday and have been following the Tone It Up Daily Workouts. I love them.

  5. I do often find that sleepy time tea just relaxes me rather than making me sleepy. I think that might be the point–it just encourages you to sleep by relaxing you, lol. Hubby and I bought a rowing machine at the end of October, so that was my workout yesterday. That thing is a beast and makes me feel so good. When I run, I tend to feel nauseous afterward, but I’m always starving after rowing, which I love!

    1. You have a point. Feeling relaxed does help me fall asleep faster! I’ve only tried rowing once and didn’t feel it. Maybe I didn’t have the correct form? Not sure haha. But that’s awesome! Running may not be for you but it sounds like you found a form of cardio that works really well.

      1. I know that with rowing, at least for me, I have to go longer before I really feel it like I typically do with running. It’s true; the tension level and your form could have also affected your experience. I love running, but rowing definitely makes me feel better overall, lol. πŸ˜‰

      2. Oh so maybe I didn’t row long enough? Who knows haha. Maybe when I join a gym I’ll try it. For now I’ll stick with running since it works for me. This is the perfect example of how the same form of exercise doesn’t work for everyone! It totally depends on your body.

  6. Hmm weather making muscles tight- never thought of that…
I did a workout with my friend Lyndsay so it had weights and cardio in it:) I love how one workout with her does it all!

    1. She’s an author I know I can grab a book from and enjoy! I can’t remember the title but the one about the boy with asperger’s is probably my favorite by her. It’s so good! I’ll probably end up eating it all on my own.

    1. I hope you love the recipe! Thank you so much. If I didn’t have a running coach who I pay to tell me workouts then I probably wouldn’t workout at all during the cold grey days ahead. That’s actually part of the reason that I hired her since I feel required (in a good way!) to go run.
