Happy Tuesday friends! How was your Monday? It’s always rough going back to work after a long holiday weekend but I hope your day was pleasant none the less. Enjoy your Tuesday 🙂
When my alarm went off yesterday, it was like getting hit by a truck. The shock of it was less than stellar but what else did I expect after staying out way too late twice in one weekend and indulging in lots of yummy food and drinks. While Alex and I were getting ready, I told him that I needed a weekend to recover from the long weekend. I got up and showered before making breakfast. Alex made us scrambled eggs while I worked on the toast. Aside from the usual salt, pepper and hot sauce on my eggs, I added a little cream cheese to my toast.
Work was not as bad as I thought it would be thankfully! I thought since last Wednesday was pretty slow Monday would be crazy busy. Luckily it wasn’t. The highlight of the day was that the Christmas tree got set up with the lights. There was a box sitting near it so I hope some ornaments get added to it.
As is my usual routine now, I quickly changed and headed out for my run after getting home from work. I had 6 x 800m speed workout on the agenda. It was hard! I’ve done 800m repeats before but after the weekend, I wasn’t too sure about if I would make all of the paces or not. While I can’t say with 110% confidence I hit my paces (my computer is still at Apple), I’m pretty sure only one 800m repeat is over the pace goal and the rest were under at around 4 minutes. Woo! Granted I was dead tired by the last two but I pushed and got it done.
Once I was home, I showered and put my pjs before making lunches for work. Alex got home shortly after and we were both hungry so ate dinner. Luckily we were having leftovers so there was no cooking involved. The brown rice and black bean salad is meant to be eaten cold so we didn’t even need to turn the stove on. It made dinner prep super simple! PS. The brown rice and black bean salad is from Julie’s blog, I just omitted the ingredients I don’t like and forgot to add the avocado on top last night.
After dinner, I got on the couch to finish “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero. My thoughts on it are mixed. The purpose of the book is to get over your doubts so that you can start living your best life. She gives advice on everything from believing in a higher power to money to giving. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I thought some of the points were nicely said and while I took some of her advice away from it (like stop caring what people think and look at the good in every situation) but some of it was just kind of eh to me. If you are looking for a simple self help book (that’s what it’s classified as at my library) then I recommend it. If you just want a simple reminder to get back to positive thinking and living your best life, this is could be good for you and is the reason I read it.
Since I’m convinced I will combust if I go longer than 4.3 minutes without starting a new book, I grabbed the next one from my pile. I’ve seen a few people talk about “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” so I was excited to see it at the library this weekend. I will report back my thoughts in a few days. After reading for a bit with the hold music from Nordstrom playing in the background (Alex ripped his suit pants yesterday 😦 ) it was time to head to bed.
Question of the day: Did you do anything yesterday to get back on track after the weekend?
