More Christmas Cookies

Happy Friday eve! How has your week been so far? Mine has been relaxing which is the perfect way to end the year. Have a great day πŸ™‚

My alarm went off at it’s normal time yesterday morning but I decided to lay in bed and sleep a little more before getting up. The company I work for is actually closed from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day so I have this entire week off which has been awesome. Instead of getting ready for work, I got ready for my run and headed out shortly before 7 am. 3 recovery miles was perfect to start the day off with. It was so nice being able to get my run in when the sun was rising instead of setting.

When I got home, I stretched, foam rolled, showered and got dressed for the day. I hung out on the couch and enjoyed my tea in front of the tree. The days of the tree are dwindling so I want to enjoy it as long as possible! I did some research for headphones online (I got two new pairs for Christmas that I need to decide between). After that, I read more ofΒ “The Last Mrs. Parrish”Β by Liv Constantine.

It was eventually time for lunch so I roasted a potato. Well actually two since I didn’t eat after my run. I was starving by the time the oven rang and topped the bowl with a little cheese I was trying to use up, ketchup and hot sauce. I watched the rest of the spring episode of the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix.

Alex had to take his car in for a servicing so I picked him at the shop before going to his parents house to grab his sister. For Christmas, part of her present was cookies in a jar and to come over to our place and her and I would bake together. She was so excited to come and bake with me and really enjoyed her time in the kitchen with me. It was fun to just hang out with her and relax a bit while the cookies were in the oven.

Alex’s mom came to pick his sister up and I started dinner. We kept it simple with tortellini and pesto. I considered trying a new recipe but the day got away from me and that idea just went out the window. That’s a prime reason why I always have a bag of tortellini or ravioli in the freezer. You never know when you’ll need it. Plus pesto is delicious in my opinion so you can’t really go wrong.

Once we finished dinner, Alex wanted to open his new game. The two of us really enjoy game nights and for Christmas I got him a new one calledΒ Codenames DuetΒ which is a two player version of the original Codenames. Neither of us played the original but it sounded interesting when I saw it at Target so I picked it up. To simplify it, each player is a spy and you’re trying to give the other person a clue to the word you want them to guess.

We played a few rounds of the game before calling it quits. Both of us really enjoyed it and found it challenging without being too much. We didn’t want to over play it too soon and then grow bored of it. The rest of the night was spent cuddled up on the couch watching “Stranger Things 2” and having a Christmas cookie.

Question of the day: Are you a fan of game nights?

  1. My boyfriend and I love board games too! He actually just got a new Sherlock Holmes based one for Christmas from his sister. Basically, you’re given a story, a newspaper, and a booklet and you’re asked to solve a crime. You go from place to place in search of clues, and each place that’s relevant has a little blurb in the booklet, which could be a clue or a red herring or just not important at all. It sounds confusing, but it makes sense once you get started.
We also just finished a 7-part Harry Potter game. That one was pretty awesome.
Hope you’re having a great week off!

    1. Oh that sounds like such a fun game! I’m definitely going to look into it for our net game purchase. I feel like most games are confusing until you play them a time or two.
We love Harry Potter so I’ll have to look into that game as well. Thanks so much for letting me know about those Rachel!
Thank you! I hope work is slow if you’re working this week and if not that you’re enjoying your week off πŸ™‚

      1. I know! I’m glad I have two to pick from lol it narrows it down for me considerably which is great. Plus it was so thoughtful of my parents and Alex’s to gift them to me since they know I like to run with music.

      2. Oh that was an awesome gift! I love getting knitting and running gifts as I’ll rarely buy myself the treats. Well I look forward to hearing which ones win. If you read about any being good for small heads, please let me know:)

      3. I find it easier to spend money on others than myself so getting headphones as a gift was awesome. Although I do have times where I follow “treat yo self” from Parks & Rec and will buy something nicer for myself. I definitely will πŸ™‚

  2. We have Code Names and it’s one of our FAVORITE games!!! I didn’t know there was a duet version. Paul and I sometimes get out the normal version and just play with each other. We play this at our game nights all the time and our friends love it. After we play the normal way, we play an alternative way that I made up… There are no teams, you lay out 25 cards (or 20, I forget how many there are supposed to be, whatever the normal number is.) Whoever is first makes a SOUND to describe one of the cards and the person who puts their finger on it takes the card. And you just go around in a circle and whoever has the most cards at the end wins. At first people are like, “Not all of these things make sounds!” which is true, but it is hilarious when someone is creative and is able to make a sound for something like the word “screen” or “rope”.

    1. I found the duet version by googling “games for two people” and bought it on a whim. It’s so much fun. We’re definitely going to have to try the way you made up with the sounds! That sounds funny and challenging. Some of the words were hard to think of clues for by a word so I can’t imagine having to try a sound!
