Happy Tuesday! Did you have yesterday off? If so, did you do anything fun? If not then I’m jealous since you got your Monday out of the way. Have a wonderful day 🙂
I planned on waking up early to run. When my alarm went off, I checked the weather and saw it felt like 4 degrees out. I wasn’t about to get out of a warm and comfortable bed to run in that so I put my phone down and went back to sleep. Waking up about an hour later felt so much better. For breakfast, we headed out to get breakfast sandwiches for a treat. A bacon, egg, and white American cheese with salt, pepper, and hot sauce on a toasted bagel is my go to sandwich. It was amazing and a great way to start the day off.
When we got home, I had to finish “An Accidental Life” by Pamela Binnings Ewen. It was so good!! If I could, I would send my copy out to anyone who wants to read it. The story is based on true Congressional testimony in which nurses stated that live births occurred during late term abortions following the Roe v. Wade ruling by the Supreme Court. Doctors would allow the babies to die without getting proper medical attention. Horrible I know, but the story is amazing.
After I finished the book, I decided to go through the clothes in my closet. One of my goals for the year is to really go through the apartment to throw out or donate items we don’t need and then organize what’s left. Since it’s hard to decide if I’ll wear certain tank tops or short sleeve shirts, I decided to try the hanger trick. The premise of this is you put all the hangers a certain way to start. As you wear an item, you flip it the other way. At the end of the year, you donate the clothes you haven’t worn.
By the time that was all done, I was ready for lunch. I made another ham sandwich plus carrots and hummus. I also had a small handful of chips when I finished just to get a little crunch. It really hit the spot. If you like hummus, you need to check out the supremely spicy flavor from Sabra. It’s the best spicy hummus that I have found to date.
While I let my lunch digest, I started my next book. As I was walking around the library on Sunday, I stumbled upon Andrew Winer’s novel called “The Marriage Artist”. Daniel, an art critic, life is changed when his wife is found dead next to an artist that he raved about. Daniel tries to figure out why his wife killed herself and uncovers a connection to a lost artist in pre-World War II Vienna. I’m interested to see how the stories connect as it develops.
After a bit, I changed and headed out for my run. 3 x 1 mile repeats was on the agenda with splits of 8:15, 8:05 and 8:05. It felt good to get out in the fresh air. Plus I actually really enjoy tough workouts like that one. Anyone else feel that way? When I got home, I grabbed water, foam roller and frozen golf ball to work my muscles out.
Alex and I decided to have a fire going the whole day since we didn’t plan on leaving. We lit it shortly after breakfast and it was so nice to enjoy it the whole day. Plus it made the apartment so warm and toasty which who doesn’t love that? We had a giant piece of wood that we decided to burn. I ended up referring to it as the Big Kahuna all day. Any guesses on how long it took it to burn? 2 hour and 47 minutes! That one piece kept the fire going forever.
For dinner, I made one of my all time favorite meals. It’s called No Peak Chicken and the recipe if from my Grandma Feeney. Seriously it’s the meal I would always request when I would be home from college on break. The best part is since it makes so much we now have leftovers for later in the week.
After dinner, it was time to wind down from the long weekend and relax. We decide to flip on “Black Mirror”. Have you seen this show? Some episodes are really intense! It’s set in the not too distant future and is about how technology could influence our lives. It really makes you think. Neither Alex or myself love finishing the night with such a heavy show so we turned on an episode of “The Office” before heading to bed.
Question of the day: What was your workout yesterday?
