Weekly Obsessions I

Happy Friday! How was your week? Personally I had a great week so I hope you did too. Have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

I’ve been reading blogs for a while and most people share some things they’ve been loving on Fridays to end the week. When I had my moment of inspiration on Wednesday, I wrote down favorites post on my list of blog ideas. Now why it took my so long to put together sharing a weekly post is beyond me. But I decided to start sharing my weekly obsessions with you all. Please let me know what your thoughts are in the comments.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

I finished this book Wednesday night and loved it! I hated ever time I would have to stop reading since the story sucked me in and had me trying to figure out what would happen. My library had a sticker on it to signal it’s science fiction. While this is true due to some out there physics (which is kept at a minimum and explained well!), it’s definitely a thriller in my opinion.

Jason Dessen is a physics professor living in Chicago with his wife and their son. One day he gets taken and wakes up in a different world where he is single and has won a prestigious award for his scientific research. He wants to get back to his family and life he has grown to love. The entire time he is trying to figure out what happened was really intriguing. While I’m an engineer, I actually hate physics and struggled my way through it both in high school and college. Personally I didn’t find the science portion of the book to take away from the story and thought Blake Crouch incorporated it in a way that lets the reader understand it without needing a PhD.

I’m pretty sure I forget how good oranges are when it’s not peak season. For whatever reason, I thought about them last week and picked a few up at the grocery store. When I bit into it on Tuesday, I was reminded why they are so delicious. I ate it way to quickly but I couldn’t help myself since it was so juicy and flavorful. I ended up eating one as a post run snack yesterday and it was delicious! I’ll be stocking up when I hit the store tonight for sure.

Thinking Positively

This past week, I’ve been trying to see the positive side of things and being more optimistic. By no means was I a negative person before but I’ve seen myself making this shift to a more positive mindset. It has honestly be so nice to dwell on the good more than the bad. For example. Alex’s job requires him to be at networking events a lot and when he first started, it honestly sucked. I hated being alone and feeling like I was sitting in silence the whole night. Now I look at it as a time for me to have my own personal concert while I do things around the apartment, being able to do a face mask without being teased and just having a little me time. That’s just one example but overall I’ve been loving it.

Sally Hansen Top Coat

This clear polish is a current life saver for me. Starting at the beginning on December, my nails have had gel polish on them. I love a good gel manicure but I need to give my nails (and wallet!) a break every once in a while. The past week or so, I’ve been slowly picking at the gel as it became loose from my nails. I know it’s bad but it’s weirdly satisfying. Anyways, my nails need a little TLC. I didn’t want to start covering them with polish immediately so I looked in my makeup bag and found this clear coat. I’ve been putting it on every other day or so and it helps my nails looks less destroyed from the gel. Plus this dries so fast. I painted them and within a minute it’s completely dry.

Question of the day: What’s one thing you’ve been obsessing over this week?

    1. Get some oranges! I have no idea how to pick them but both that I bought on a whim last week were delicious and juicy. I’m glad to hear you enjoy this type of post Erinn! Have a wonderful weekend πŸ™‚

  1. HEY GIRL!!! Ugh, it has beeeen a hot minute since I’ve been able to stop by.. and I am officially supposed to leave for work right now, BUT I need to at least read one of your posts ❀ Going through withdrawlzies.

I loveee thriller novels. I am working my way through a β€œClassics” reading list.. but definitely need to throw in a curve ball thriller here and there!

    Instadry is the bestttt!!!

Hmmm this week I have been obsessing over my patients. They have been such dolls, and I feel like I have created very special bonds with them. I am heading back this morning and actually excited.. which doesn't always happen. Hahah. XOOXOX

    1. Hi!! You are so sweet to stop by ❀ Fingers crossed you're not late for work!!

I really liked this one and I think you would enjoy it too! Thrillers are the best in my opinion and I can't get enough of them.
I love whoever invented Instadry! I painted them one morning right before leaving. They were dry before I even put my gloves on. Amazing!

Aw I'm so glad to hear your patients have been so amazing this week! I love that you're excited to be going. It's the best feeling to be excited to go to work. At my old job I would straight up dread it every day but not anymore. So happy to hear you're in such a good place with work right now. Have a fantastic day πŸ™‚

      1. Hehe- not late. We were all good!

I seriously need to invest in Instadry! You have me 100% convinced.

❀ So glad work is better for you too! These days of wading in the working world can be real TOUGH, but if you can find somewhere you love it's something to hold on to!

  2. I like the one about thinking positively! That’s a great life lesson. I can totally relate, it’s not my favorite when Joel has to travel for work. But I’ve started using that time to reconnect with friends and it is so much nicer now! πŸ€—

    1. That’s awesome you use that time to reconnect with friends! It’s nice because sometimes I’ll run errands or go to Trader Joe’s and pick up some fun snacks to occupy my time. I didn’t intentionally try to think positively but I noticed it happening this week and I’m all about it! Have a great Friday πŸ™‚

  3. I love oranges!! Especially when I’m feeling sick, they just boost me right up.

I’ve been obsessing over flavored sparkling water this week. I bought 6 giant bottles of Polar at the beginning of this week, and they are definitely all gone. So delicious.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I’m obsessed with seltzer. No joke, I buy minimum 12 a week and we drink them all. So good! I recommend the Vintage brand, it’s my personal favorite.

Thanks for stopping by Rachel! Have a great day πŸ™‚

    1. They really are! I’m happy to report that I’ve stocked back up since I went grocery shopping πŸ™‚

It really does! Now I’m trying to be more intentional since it wasn’t something I was focused on.

Thanks Chelsea! Have a wonderful weekend!

      1. I’ll be grabbing more on Sunday! Though I’m leaning towards trying your grocery shopping on Friday night routine:). Someone brought mandarins to school yesterday, I think I ate five of them 😳. They were just so good!

  4. I have a feeling I’m going to love these posts of yours, Maureen! Yay. I was given that same top coat for Christmas, but have yet to try it out. I need to do that ASAP! My obsession this week is salmon. Yum! For some reason I just can’t get enough of it!

    1. Aw I’m so happy to hear that Allie! It dries so fast. I painted my nails quick with it in the morning before work one day and had gloves on about a minute later. I love when that happens! Plus salmon is healthy so way to go!

  5. Weekly obsessions are always so fun to read! I can definitely relate with you regarding your initial struggle with Alex being gone at nights and being alone. When Joshua & I were dating and for about the first year of our marriage, he had a job where I could literally be with him all the time since I worked from my laptop. Back in June, though, he got a new job and I was then alone at home all day long, every day. It was a really hard transition and I got super lonely. However, I’ve been able to adjust and see it as a nice way to really focus on my work without any distractions now. πŸ™‚ There’s always something positive to pull out of it!

    1. It’s definitely an adjustment going from always seeing someone to never really seeing them. I’m glad the adjustment went well for you!! It’s tough being home after work when you want to talk and relax after work but your by yourself. Luckily my personal concerts fill the silence πŸ˜‰
