Another Day, Another Book

Happy weekend! What are your plans for the last weekend in January?! Which is absolutely crazy right? I feel like we just started the month. Regardless, I hope you have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

So Alex and I have had our heat turned off the past few days since our bill was ridiculously high this past month. Well our noggins didn’t think to look at the forecast and it was below freezing outside when we woke up. So we quickly turned the heat back on but talk about a quick wake up call. Luckily a hot shower and cozy clothes warmed me up before I made breakfast. Scrambled eggs and toast because I’m super predictable πŸ˜‰

During work, I continued readingΒ Day for NightΒ by Frederick Reiken while eating lunch. I started this on Thursday and by the time I got home from work. I was about 60% of the way through. It’s an interesting book. There are a bunch of characters (I want to say 6) that are so unrelated and somehow their stories are intertwined. I’m still trying to figure it out because the characters include a Jewish refuge that came to America before World War II to a fugitive being chased by the FBI to a boy that has been in a coma or two months.

In true Friday fashion, after work I headed to the grocery store. It was a big trip because we seemed to run out of a few staples. Does that happen to anyone else where you run out of staples at the same time? Luckily Alex worked from home in the afternoon so I didn’t have to carry it all up myself. I read on the couch after we caught up on our days.

For dinner, we made buffalo chicken cheesesteaks! This is something Alex always gets when we have takeout from one place so we decided to try making it at home. I had chicken breasts and hot sauce in the crock pot on low all day and shredded it. To make the sandwich, I melted provolone cheese on sandwich rolls in the oven then put the chicken on top. So easy and delicious! We also had some cheese fries on the side.

After dinner, I finished “Day for Night”. Well I fell asleep in the last 20 pages so it was a struggle to finish. Personally I didn’t like the book. I feel like there were some characters who got introduced and had a whole chapter told from their point of view who just dropped out of the story. When I first started, it seemed extremely interesting which is why I continued to read it. It just didn’t do it for me so I wouldn’t recommend.

The second the book was over I went to sleep. I actually fell asleep on the couch first and then Alex woke me up and I headed to bed.

Question of the day: What book are you currently reading?Β

      1. Exactly! If I had known it would be that way I probably wouldn’t have even started it. I tried to get The Alice Network at the library but it was out 😦 I’ve heard such great things! I’m going to need to check out those other books as well.

  1. I just finished All The Old Knives by Olen Steinhauer. Good book! I think you’d like it! And it’s a fast read only 257 pages.
Also, I have another rec. Blake Crouch, who wrote Dark Matter also wrote a three book series (1st book called Wayward.) I finished it in a few hours. I could not put it down. Read the trilogy in a week. If you liked Dark Matter I’m thinking you will like this series. I love to read and really appreciate your input on the books you read. πŸ™‚

    1. I’ll add all of those to my list! I really enjoyed Crouch’s writing style so I’m super interested in the trilogy you mentioned.
I’m so glad I can help out with some book suggestions for you πŸ™‚ I’m such a book worm and love hearing abut what other people are reading.

  2. Isn’t it just the best having someone there to help you bring groceries in?! It’s always such a treat when Jimmy is home to help me out!

The book your reading sounds interesting! I generally like books with a lot of characters, but I really have to be focused and keep reading steadily or else I’ll lose track of the plot, LOL!!

    1. I know! It was awesome since I had a decent amount of bags and case of water too. If I was alone, I would have had to take so many trips.

Honestly I wouldn’t recommend that book. I just didn’t like it and felt like nothing really came together in the end. There were so many characters that had a chapter and then just disappeared. Just strange and not my cup of tea!
