Do I Like Or Dislike This Book?

Hello friends! I woke up to a steady rain this morning and it was honestly really nice. Am I the only one who enjoys laying in bed listening to rain? I laid in bed a bit to enjoy the rain before getting up. It’s supposed to rain most of the day but I have my fingers crossed it’ll stop before I get off work so I can get a good run in. Have a great day 🙂

Scrambled Eggs and Bacon

Wednesday started out similar to Monday. We made bacon and eggs again for breakfast. There’s something about bacon on a weekday that feels like a luxury in a sense. Growing up I used to only have bacon on weekends if my Dad would make a big breakfast so having it during the week feels like fun. Plus it’s halfway through the week so why not celebrate it with bacon 😉

Work was pretty good! It was one of those days where I felt like I kept crossing thing off my to do list even though I was adding things to it as well. During lunch, I kept reading Ten Thousand Saints. I made good progress and was kind of glad it was grey and raining on and off so I had an excuse to be able to sit and read after work.

When I was driving home, apparently Alex passed me and decided we were going to race. Well I didn’t know that until I was on my normal route so I couldn’t even try to beat him. Spoiler alert: Alex won. Bailey and I played while Alex finished up a work call then we went for a little walk. Walk may be generous since it was still kind of drizzling so we went outside to have her go to the bathroom, said hello to the kids playing near the park who were pumped to see her then walked to the dumpster to throw a bag away. At least we got outside in between the rain!

Once we got inside, I grabbed my Nook and water bottle then settled in on the couch. I was determined to finish the book since I had under 100 pages left. This book is one I can’t decide if I like or dislike. As weird as that may sound, I think it was the plot. Jude and Teddy are best friends in 1987 and Teddy dies of an overdoes on New Year’s Eve. Jude goes from one extreme of drinking and drugs to the other in the span of a few months. Then Teddy gets someone pregnant even though they just met and were alone for an hour so there’s that part of the plot. It was good, don’t get me wrong I just don’t know if I’ll run around recommending it to people.

Since I accomplished my goal for the night, I was ready to get dinner started. Tacos was an Alex requested meal and I’ll never say no to a taco. Funny story though, a few weeks ago I bought what I thought was a pack of ground turkey but may have actually been ground pork. I know that sounds ridiculous because how could you not know but I think they were right next to each other and I wasn’t paying attention. So we don’t actually know what meat we had last night but it was good none the less! I loaded up my tacos and was shocked they didn’t fall apart when I tried to eat them.

We watched an episode of Billions after dinner. If you have access to Showtime then I highly recommend this show. It’s drama but not unrealistic drama. Okay maybe it’s a little unrealistic but I’m not worth $10 billion dollars like one of the characters in the show. A girl can dream right?! After the episode we read a bit before getting ready for bed.

Question of the day: Have you ever read a book and not been able to decide if you liked or disliked it?

      1. Well that’s good because I don’t like it when I get to the end of a book and feel like I didn’t really like it!

  1. I love the “I’ll never say no to a taco.” I feel ya girl. And, yes, I have definitely not known if I like a book or not but just power through mostly because I want to finish it. I just read The Keeper of Lost Things and I couldn’t tell if I liked it or not and because of the plot, like you said!!

  2. I’m sure over the years there have been books that I finish with a question mark in mind. I tend to give up on books that I don’t like or have a lack of motivation to complete early on. Life is too short to read a book you don’t like.

  3. “Where did you go Bernadette.”
I enjoyed the flow and different narratives. But, I felt like the author was in a rush to end the book. The ending felt artificial. I would not recommend it, but I think you already read it 🙂 Your reading habits inspire me. While I find reading quite therapeutic, I admit I don’t practice healthy “reading habits.” I never have enough time! I admire how you sneak in reading whenever you can.
Also, too late to post on yesterday, but I only buy brand name facial care products. Companies have patents for a reason (until they expire, but that is another story!)

    1. I did read that and enjoyed it! Now I wonder if I went back to reread it if I would feel like the ending was rushed. Reading is just a form of self care to me at this point I guess. I truly love it so I try my best to read a little every day. I don’t think I realized facial care products could get patents. My understanding was that you can’t patent them but can make it a trade secret (like Coke is!). But I could totally be wrong!

  4. That happens to me a lot with books– they are just ok. Occasionally I’ll get one that just doesn’t click with me and I’ll keep trying and it totally stalls my reading for awhile. I should just give up on it, but I can’t.
Hope you have a good weekend.

    1. I felt like the book was good when I was reading but when I finished I couldn’t decide at first. While I was running yesterday I thought about it more and I think it’s a no book for me. Not horrible but not something I would recommend to a friend.
