Our First Overnight Guest

Hello! How’s your weekend so far? Even though yesterday was fairly grey and it rained most of the day, overall it was pretty good. Right now the sun is shining so I have my fingers crossed it’ll stay out for a while. Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

On Saturdays, I have an alarm set for 6 am so I can get up an run. Apparently my body was done sleeping at 5:38 am since that’s when I woke up. I laid in bed a bit before deciding to just get up and run. It was raining again so I made sure to grab a hat and I’m so glad I did! For some reason, my watch said my first mile was a 7:58 which made no sense since I don’t think it was even a mile and I definitely wasn’t going that fast. The rest of the run was pretty good despite being wet. I ended up with 4 miles at a 9:09 average pace.

When I got home, I quickly turned on the Royal Wedding coverage to watch while I stretched and foam rolled. What did you guys think of Meghan’s dress? To be honest, I thought it was too simple! Now I know there are most likely rules regarding what they can wearing but Kate’s dress had lace when she married William. While watching, I was texting my mom all of my thoughts because I figured she was watching as well. We chatted back and forth. My baking skills need some work though because did you see the cake? Can you say gorgeous?

Chinese Takeout

For whatever reason, I wasn’t really hungry so I didn’t eat breakfast. It’s not worth it to make yourself eat if you aren’t hungry in my opinion. I ran a few errands before coming home to shower. Since it was raining still, I didn’t want to get dry and warm before heading back out so why not rock the post run look out haha. By the time I was home and showered though I was hungry so leftover Chinese for lunch was perfect.

I spent most of the afternoon reading on the couch. I feel like I’m at this really juicy part in the book now. If you enjoy historical fiction and novels that involve telling two different stories then you need to pick up Cathy Gohlke’s Secrets She Kept.

Brownies

In the late afternoon, we ended to Alex’s parents house to pick up his twin sister Tory. She was coming to spend the night and is actually the first person we’ve had stay the night since we’ve been in this apartment! When we were driving back, I asked if she wanted to bake and she agreed. Tory picked a brownie recipe out and we got to work. The brownies smelled so good while they cooked and it was hard to not cut into them straight from the oven but we waited until after dinner.

Spaghetti and Meatballs

For dinner, we made spaghetti and meatballs. I use the frozen meatballs from Trader Joe’s and they are so good. I pop them right into the oven while frozen and let them bake for 30 minutes. While those were heating up, I made the noodles for us. In my bowl, I added marinara sauce, some cheese and fresh basil to it. Dinner was so tasty and perfect for a grey day!

After dinner, we all cleaned up and decided to watch a movie. We all decided on the recent Jungle Book movie. While it started, we all had some dessert. They turned out delicious and we all ended up having two. It was pretty good but I felt like little kids would find it kind of scary since the animals are more realistic than a carton. Overall it was good but I can’t compare to the original since I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it. Once the movie was over, we all got ready for bed.

Question of the day: Did you watch the Royal Wedding?

A Great New Book Plus Takeout

Happy Royal Wedding day! Are you watching? I’m typing up this post while I watch. Kate looks amazing and she had a baby 25 days ago…goals my friends. GOALS. Meghan is going to get out of the car at any second so I’m going to try and get this typed up and ready to go. Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday started out with some puppy cuddles before I hopped in the shower. Thank goodness it was a Friday since the weather was a tad chilly. Well high 50s/low 60s but after some 80+ degrees days that felt cold! Company sweatshirt for the outfit win. For breakfast, I scrambled some eggs and had an oatmeal muffin on the side.

During lunch at work, I started a new book.ย Secrets She Keptย by Cathy Gohlke is a historical fiction novel. The one part is about Lieselotte, a German living in Berlin during World War II, whose father rises in the ranks of the Nazi party. Fast forward thirty years, and her daughter, Hannah, discovers upon her mother’s death that she actually has family in Germany. Hannah heads to Berlin to learn more about her mother. It’s a great book so far. There’s lot of twists and turns and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

After work, I headed to the grocery store to pick up a few things for the week before heading home. Alex and I leashed Bailey up for a walk and to try some obedience training outside. The dang wind ruined that plan but we got a little bit of training in and she’s getting better. When we got home, I read some more on the couch while Alex worked a bit.

Chinese Takeout

For dinner, we ordered in Chinese food. We got some pork fried rice, cold sesame noodles, pork dumplings, and chicken with hot pepper sauce and peanuts. We probably could have ordered half of it and been totally satisfied but oh well. Leftovers are always delicious! After dinner, we hung out on the couch and watched The Office before heading to bed.

Question of the day: What did you have for dinner last night?

Books, Daily Happenings

Do I Like Or Dislike This Book?

Hello friends! I woke up to a steady rain this morning and it was honestly really nice. Am I the only one who enjoys laying in bed listening to rain? I laid in bed a bit to enjoy the rain before getting up. It’s supposed to rain most of the day but I have my fingers crossed it’ll stop before I get off work so I can get a good run in. Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

Scrambled Eggs and Bacon

Wednesday started out similar to Monday. We made bacon and eggs again for breakfast. There’s something about bacon on a weekday that feels like a luxury in a sense. Growing up I used to only have bacon on weekends if my Dad would make a big breakfast so having it during the week feels like fun. Plus it’s halfway through the week so why not celebrate it with bacon ๐Ÿ˜‰

Work was pretty good! It was one of those days where I felt like I kept crossing thing off my to do list even though I was adding things to it as well. During lunch, I kept reading Ten Thousand Saints. I made good progress and was kind of glad it was grey and raining on and off so I had an excuse to be able to sit and read after work.

When I was driving home, apparently Alex passed me and decided we were going to race. Well I didn’t know that until I was on my normal route so I couldn’t even try to beat him. Spoiler alert: Alex won. Bailey and I played while Alex finished up a work call then we went for a little walk. Walk may be generous since it was still kind of drizzling so we went outside to have her go to the bathroom, said hello to the kids playing near the park who were pumped to see her then walked to the dumpster to throw a bag away. At least we got outside in between the rain!

Once we got inside, I grabbed my Nook and water bottle then settled in on the couch. I was determined to finish the book since I had under 100 pages left. This book is one I can’t decide if I like or dislike. As weird as that may sound, I think it was the plot. Jude and Teddy are best friends in 1987 and Teddy dies of an overdoes on New Year’s Eve. Jude goes from one extreme of drinking and drugs to the other in the span of a few months. Then Teddy gets someone pregnant even though they just met and were alone for an hour so there’s that part of the plot. It was good, don’t get me wrong I just don’t know if I’ll run around recommending it to people.

Since I accomplished my goal for the night, I was ready to get dinner started. Tacos was an Alex requested meal and I’ll never say no to a taco. Funny story though, a few weeks ago I bought what I thought was a pack of ground turkey but may have actually been ground pork. I know that sounds ridiculous because how could you not know but I think they were right next to each other and I wasn’t paying attention. So we don’t actually know what meat we had last night but it was good none the less! I loaded up my tacos and was shocked they didn’t fall apart when I tried to eat them.

We watched an episode of Billions after dinner. If you have access to Showtime then I highly recommend this show. It’s drama but not unrealistic drama. Okay maybe it’s a little unrealistic but I’m not worth $10 billion dollars like one of the characters in the show. A girl can dream right?! After the episode we read a bit before getting ready for bed.

Question of the day: Have you ever read a book and not been able to decide if you liked or disliked it?

Bacon Makes Monday Better

Hi friends! I hope your week is off to a great start. Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

img_6601

Waking up to a grey sky on Monday morning after going to bed late was rough. Rough as in, I didn’t even get out of bed until 5:40/5:45. Not every morning is a good one and I was slow moving for a while. Alex started breakfast and I walked out to the kitchen to see bacon going into a pan. Bacon and eggs on a Monday morning is a motivator to start the day off on a good note.

img_6726

At work, I started to get really hungry and was so glad I last minute threw an oatmeal muffin into my bag to have with my fruit as a midmorning snack. The fresh strawberries and muffin were perfect to hold me over until lunch. Luckily the day went by pretty quickly so I could get home.

After work, I said hello to Bailey and quickly changed to head out to run.ย  Right when I started I saw Alex finishing up his run ahead of me. Naturally I decided to try to scare him since he had no clue I was behind him. Let’s just say he was not thrilled at me…don’t worry though he loves me anyways ๐Ÿ˜‰ An easy 3 miles and then a little family walk for the day. Not too bad at all! On the walk, we brought a ton of treats along and trained Bailey outside. In our apartment, she’s great at commands but outside is way to distracting. She did a pretty good job once the smell of treats hit her.

When we got home, I got on the couch to read. I decided to stick it out with Ten Thousand Saints since the story is interesting. Plus it’s different from my typical thriller or super easy beach read so I thought it deserved a shot. The story is about two boys, Jude and Teddy, who live in Vermont. Teddy dies of a drug overdose on the last day of 1987 and Jude is left to deal with the aftermath. His relationship with drugs and his parents are sent to extremes. It’s interesting but I can’t decide if it’ll be a book I recommend once I finish. Does that make sense?

img_6727

For dinner, we had chicken breasts marinating for about 24 hours and threw them on the grill. I branched out when I was at the grocery store over the weekend and bought cauliflower. Cauliflower is a vegetable I enjoy but never go out of my way to purchase. I ended up roasting in the same manner I roast broccoli. Both Alex and I enjoyed it a lot and I think I’ll be picking more up. We also had roasted potatoes to round out the meal.

Once dinner was finished and everything was cleaned up, we settled in on the couch to finish Dunkirk. We started it Saturday night but then someone stopped by so we paused it for another night. Man it got me going this movie! It’s based on actual events in World War II and I know exactly what happens in the end. Christopher Nolan did a phenomenal job writing, directing, and producing the film. I highly recommend if you enjoy historical movies!

When the movie ended, I read a bit before heading to bed. Alex suggested watching an episode of The Office which felt like a great way to round out the night.

Question of the day: What’s one thing that made your Monday better?

Sunday In Pictures Vol. 31

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. If you’re a mother, I hope you got spoiled by your children. Even though it was a grey and rainy weekend, we made the most of it by spring cleaning on Saturday and some time outside yesterday. This week it looks like it might rain most of it but I’m actually okay with it. The rain is washing away all the pollen that’s been killing me – I didn’t even take an allergy pill yesterday! We’ll ignore the fact that I woke up at 1:13 am in order to take on though… Hopefully the sun will shine for you this week. Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

Strawberries

Alex slept much later than Bailey and I so while we played, Iย  snacked on some strawberries.

Blueberry Waffle

For breakfast, we had waffles and bacon (not pictured).

Piping

I finally worked on my piping skills with the set Alex gave me for Valentine’s Day. Spoil alert – it was AMAZING. I kept commenting on how amazing and awesome it was lol.

img_6707

Called my mom to chat a bit and to wish her a happy Mother’s Day. This was from exactly a year ago today at my graduation from Rutgers. Time flies you guys…

img_6714

I made a tortilla pizza and paired it with a big salad for lunch.

img_6716

We attempted some obedience training outside… It’s a work in progress but she’s got it in the apartment.

img_6722

I made a key lime pie (from a mix )with whipped cream for dessert. The piping needs a little work but not too bad for a second try!

img_6723

We went to Alex’s parents house for dinner. Steak, roasted potatoes and some asparagus for dinner before dessert and his mom opened gifts.
