A Sick And Snowy Day

Happy Saturday! What are your plans for the day? I plan on taking it easy and hopefully kicking the little cold I picked up. Have a great day 🙂

When I woke up Friday morning, it was very apparent that walking around New York City Thursday night was not good for my physical health. I really wanted to stay in bed but I had some deadlines for work that I had to meet so I got up and ready. Since my run Wednesday morning didn’t end up happening, I had some overnight oats in the fridge still. Once I put some milk in the container and topped it off with a scoop of peanut butter, I drove to work and ate at the office.

I think my library needs a new copy of this book…

During lunch, I started reading “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie. Considering how much I love crime and thriller novels, it’s probably weird that I have never read one of Agatha Christie’s books. I’m late to the game and definitely jumped on the band wagon once I saw that there’s a movie coming out. The trailer for the film looks really good so I’m hoping the book is too.

The entire day at work was spent sniffling, sneezing and blowing my nose so I immediately put on pjs pants when I got home. I’m usually okay with staying in jeans after work but if I’m sick I want all the comfy clothes. I checked emails on the couch while watching the snow fall outside our window. When Alex got home, we opened up the box of holiday fun from one of my company’s suppliers. They sent 21(!) boxes to my office. In it were some pita looking crackers, a few different types of cheese and little chocolate cookies. How cute is the snowman cheese?! We think the snowman is wax around it but I’ll report back when we open it.

I worked on some blog posts for next week while sitting by the tree with a candle burning. I consider it a win that I could smell the candle even though half of my nose was congested. It’s the little things like that when you’re under the weather my friends! I also read more and took a super quick nap.

For dinner, I heated up leftovers for us. I didn’t have any much as I thought I did from dinner on Thursday night. Luckily there was an extra burger and some leftover roasted potatoes in the fridge that I heated up as well for myself. Topped the burger with a slice of white American cheese and dinner was served!

After dinner, Alex and I watched “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”. I had never seen the full movie before so it was fun to watch! Fun fact – the McCallister house is in Chicago. It recently sold for a few million dollars which is crazy. During the movie, we made some popcorn to enjoy. When it was finished I headed right to bed.

Question of the day: Which do you like more – the original “Home Alone” or “Home Alone 2”?

Christmas In New York City

Hi friends! It’s finally Friday, woo hoo! This week felt like it flew by for me, anyone else feel that way? Regardless, have a great day 🙂

After sleeping about an hour longer than normal, I woke up feeling a little better but congested this time. A hot shower helped that a bit (tmi?), and I got dressed for work. I took a little extra time with my makeup since I would be going out after work so Alex made breakfast for me. I’m back to scrambled eggs and toast which was delicious.

I finally finished “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe” and loved it. It took me a little bit in the beginning to really get into the book, but once the pace picked up I was hooked. This is the story that is told in the present as well as back in time. There’s a few characters to keep track of and the years skip around so at first it was hard to keep everything straight but I got over it fairly easily. Now I want to watch the movie to see how that is. Are you a book or movie first person? To be honest, I didn’t even realize this was a movie until someone told me in the comments.

One thing I love about my company is we get 4 leave early hours every quarter that do not count against our vacation time. I decided to take 2 hours yesterday and headed into New York to meet Alex. While on the train, I snacked on half of a Power Crunch protein bar. The french vanilla creme flavor isn’t my personal favorite but it was tasty to fill me up instead of my typical afternoon yogurt I have.

I walked to Alex’s office then we headed off to our first stop of the night: the Rockefeller Christmas tree! It was less crowded than I thought it would be which was nice. I was expecting it to be worse so not having to really fight for a picture spot was a pleasant surprise.

After that, we walked back to his office to drop the sweater I brought for him off. I met a few of his coworkers then we headed off to dinner. We planned to go to a bar with a really good happy hour deal, New York City prices are no joke, but it was beyond crowded. We ended up going to Stout which was packed as well. The hostess said it would be about 45 minutes for a table but we put our names in anyway. Before we could even get our drink order filled at the bar, they called and said our table was ready. It was perfect timing because I started getting hungry. We started with fried pickles. Ya know, because on our first date, the fried pickles worked out so well…

Alex is pointing out that his meal was still bubbling from the oven.

The food was delicious! While the bar and restaurant was crowded, the food was quite speedy. I opted for the grilled chicken sandwich that had bacon, white cheddar and an avocado ranch on ciabatta. Alex had Shepard’s pie that had peas, carrots, onion, ground beef, mashed potatoes and he opted to get it topped with some cheddar cheese. They did not skimp on anything for either dish. It was so tasty and we had leftovers which is always nice.

After we paid, we headed to Bryant Park’s Winter Village. It’s a small market with a variety of vendors. We walked around and looked at a few vendors to see what they had to offer. One vendor was selling ornaments that you could personalize. Naturally I bought one for us to commemorate our first Christmas in our first place together! While this isn’t our first Christmas while dating, this is the first time we’ll spend it together. There was a tree there as well so obviously we had to take a picture.

Once we finished, we made a quick pit stop at his office to pick up Alex’s briefcase before heading to Penn Station for our train. When we got home, the congestion was real so I had some sleepy time tea before crawling into bed after our fun date out.

Question of the day: What’s one Christmas tradition you have?

I Have A Confession

Happy Friday Eve! I’m taking a few hours off tonight to go do something fun and I can’t wait to share with y’all. Have a wonderful day 🙂

Okay you guys, I have to confess something to you. I woke up at my normal time yesterday morning and got dressed for a run. I ate my usual toast with peanut butter and stretched. When I went out the door, I stretched my calves and the wind was COLD. I walked right back up the stairs to our apartment, took my shoes off and got back in bed. Yep, I totally chickened out on the run because of the wind chill! In my defense, when I got in the car two hours later to go to work, the temperature read 19 degrees…

After a little longer in bed, I got up to shower. I piled my running clothes back on the floor and swamped them for my work outfit. Due to a meeting that was from 4-5pm, I went into work at 8am instead of my typical 7 am start time. Instead of rushing after my run, I had time to sit on the couch, drink some Emergen-C and finishing up yesterday’s blog post. My throat felt a little off when I woke up so the hope was that Emergen-C would help kick anything that may be creeping up.

Alex took the morning off to take his final exams for school. His meeting in the city got canceled so he asked if I wanted to come home to lunch. I obviously said yes and hurried home. He couldn’t decide which picture he liked better and wanted y’all to see both lol. Even though I didn’t get a full hour of reading in (one of my favorite parts of the day!) I was happy to get a little bit of time with him during the work day.

Random fact but my boss is located in Detroit, Michigan. They were forecasted to get about 8ish inches of snow so that office got sent home early to avoid any issues. Unfortunately that meant my meeting that was scheduled from 4-5pm got pushed to next week 😦 So I could have worked my normal hours but oh well, can’t change the weather. The last hour surprisingly went by fast which was a nice surprise.

During the last hour or two of work, my throat starting hurting again and my overall mood got more in the dumps a bit. When I was on my way home, I asked Alex to pull out some throat lozenges for me. I put on my pjs when I got home and got comfy on the couch.

For dinner, I felt like doing negative work so roasting potatoes was the only work I did. Alex grilled us some cheeseburgers to enjoy. Per usual, I topped mine with mustard, ketchup, pickles and lettuce. So yummy! I kept telling Alex that the burger was hitting the spot and exactly what I needed.

I spent my night cuddled up on the couch and reading. Alex was sweet and made me some decaf tea while I read. I went to bed nice and early (before 9!) to try and kick whatever it is I caught.

Nice And Slow Miles

Happy hump day! Half way through the week already. How has your week been thus far? I hope it’s been a good one. Have a great day 🙂

Yesterday started a little earlier than normal when Alex’s alarm went at 4:45. He had a work event in the city so he had to catch a 6:15 am train. I got to sleep in a little later until my normal alarm went off. Once I was ready I headed to the kitchen. I grabbed some waffles out of the freezer and popped them into the toaster oven to warm up. When they were done, I topped it with some peanut butter and chia seeds for breakfast.

I ran out at lunch to pick something up at the tailor’s. That only left me with about 30 minutes of reading once I got back while I ate. I know, 30 minutes is better than nothing but I love that hour in my day to take a long break from work and just escape into my book. “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe” just got to a really good part and all I wanted to do was spend the rest of my day reading.

Once I was changed, I heading out on my 4 mile run. This time it was actually at a recovery pace which was awesome! I feel like these runs always feel the hardest for whatever reason but I know they are important so I try not to push the pace. Key word being try 😉 When I got home, I stretched and foam rolled before taking a quick shower.

Alex got home shortly after I got back and we were both pretty hungry. We got out leftovers from the fridge and heated a bunch up for our dinner. I put potatoes, shredded chicken, a little cheese and hot sauce into a bowl. To get some veggies, I put roasted brussel sprouts and broccoli onto a plate.

Once dinner was cleaned up, I worked on my next DIY Christmas gift. Guys they are turning out so cute! I will have a post up next week with how to do them all so be on the look out for that if you are interested 🙂 Before fully cleaning up, I made some overnight oats so they could set in the fridge overnight.

After that was all done, I curled up on the couch while burning a candle. Alex turned on “Bad Santa” which I had never seen before. I don’t really recommend it. It was pretty bad in my opinion and we didn’t even finish it.

Lunch At Home

Happy Tuesday! How was your Monday? I hope your week started off on a positive note. Have a great day 🙂

At some point, I woke up in the middle of the night and was really confused on what day it was. When my alarm went off, I was not at all confused.  I got ready and was had ample time to eat breakfast. A few weeks ago, Laura from Laura Likes Design, posted about how she gets dressed with purpose everyday and sets everything out the night before. I’ve been doing that for a few weeks now and it helps me so much in the morning. I don’t even have to open drawers or the closet! For breakfast, Alex and I had scrambled eggs and bacon.

During the morning at work, I realized I didn’t plug my Garmin in to charge. Alex suggested that I go home during my lunch break to plug it in. I figured since we only live 10 minutes away then why not. The perk of forgetting to plug my watch in was being able to read on the couch instead of at my desk. Win!

When work ended, I ran home and got changed before heading out the door to run. My workout was 4 x 1200m repeats. I wasn’t sure how these long repeats would go but I felt pretty good and each one got faster, woo! My splits were 6:22, 6:12, 6:12, and 6:04. I decided to finish my cool down in our parking lot since there was a car parked in the parking lot at the park I ran at. It creeped me out a bit (thank goodness I always bring my phone with me) so it’s always better to be safe than sorry especially now that it gets dark so early. A total of 6 miles for the night at a 9:25 pace.

After my run, I stretched and showered before getting dinner ready. I put some veggies in the oven to roast but when Alex and I saw how big the wraps were once we put them on our plates, we threw the veggies in a container and put them in the fridge. It wasn’t worth it to stuff ourselves just to get a few extra greens in. Dinner ended up just being buffalo chicken wraps. I used shredded buffalo chicken from the crock pot, cheese, and lettuce on a whole wheat wrap.

Post dinner clean up, I worked on my first of 3 DIY Christmas gifts. These are all for Alex’s family since making a craft and traveling on an airplane would not end to well. We decided to gift a red pepper infused olive oil as one of the gifts. It was so simple. Is this something you guys would like to see a post about? If so, please let me know! I would be more than happy. Once it was done, I put it in a glass container I found at Home Good for under $4. I tied a ribbon and viola! a simple addition to the gift we are giving.

I ended the night by curling up on the couch to read more. I’m really enjoying “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe”. It’s taking me a little longer than normal since it’s 1) not a mystery/thriller novel and 2) when a good holiday song comes on Pandora I end up singing along. After a while, I ended to bed.

Question of the day: Alex and I are having a couple over for dinner on Saturday and I’m stumped on what to make. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
