Weekly Obsessions

Weekly Obsessions V

Happy Fri-yay friends! How was your week? I had a pretty exciting week which you’ll see why below. I don’t think there’s anything on the agenda for my weekend as of right now and that’s fine by me! Earlier this week both Alex and someone in the comments commented on how we still have Christmas decorations up…no shame! But since it’s almost March maybe I’ll make a trip to Home Goods to get some spring decor. Nothing like a weekend full of rain that’ll get me to shop. Alex is also sharing one of his favorites today so I hope you enjoy it! Have a great day πŸ™‚

My New Haircut

Haircut Feb. 2018

I mentioned last week that I was getting my haircut this past weekend. Since the lady blow dried it nice and straight with a little curl at the end, I wasn’t sure what it would look like once back to my natural curls. As anyone with curly hair can attest to, it can be a little nerve wracking to get a haircut (just me?). Worrying was pointless because it turned out great. The length is so nice and my hair feels so healthy right now. I’m loving the shorter length that is has right now!

Kiwi

Kiwi

When I was walking through the produce section last weekend, I must have blacked out because all of a sudden kiwi were in my shopping cart. At least the impulse buy was healthy right? It’s been nice coming home after work or a run and cutting up a few and eating them in a bowl. In case you need an easy way to take the skin off try this trick: cut the ends so it can stand up flat. Using a spoon, go into the kiwi and follow the curve of it. Try to get it very close to the skin so you get as much fruit as possible. It’s the easiest way to take the skin off in my opinion.

Queso Chicken Chili from Pinch of Yum

Queso Chicken Chili

Technically this is a recipe for a crockpot but I don’t own a normal size crockpot. Mine is 1.5 qt (I believe) which is pretty small. I saw this recipe pop up on a few blogs last week and decided to make it on the stove on Sunday. Oh my goodness…this recipe is a winner everyone! It’s definitely a little more work on the stove since I would occasionally stir it since the heat is concentrated on the bottom but I would happily put the effort in. The only change I made was putting two chipotles in adoba sauce in the pot and they kinda of just broke apart over time which gave a really nice flavor. It makes a big batch and we’ve had it for dinner 3 times this week. The rest went in the freezer last night and I’m already looking forward to eating it again. My favorite way to eat it is by topping it with some avocado and dipping tortilla chips in.

A Midweek Celebration For Being Debt Free

Champagne For No Student Loans

I made a goal of my after graduating that I would pay my student loans back as soon as possible. After doing a few rough calculations, I challenged myself to do it within a year of graduating college. Paying them back so quickly was a personal choice and it was not a small amount by any means either. This week, I put in the final payment on my student loans!! It feels so good to say that y’all. I paid a small amount during the final semester of college due to some scholarships I received but the bulk was paid back starting in June 2017. So in 8 months I was able to accomplish my goal. Alex and I decided to celebrate with a little champagne during the week!

To be honest and frank, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share this on the blog or not. By no means do I want it to come across in a bragging manner or that I’m better than someone for paying down my loans this quickly. Everyone’s financial situation is different. With that being said, I hope you can all understand why I am sharing about this accomplishment.

Alex wanted to share something with you all. Everything after this sentence is in his words.Β This is Alex here: After a long day of work, client meetings, classes, and real estate licensing, I get to come home to a green creature from Star Wars. #blessed

Weekly Obsessions

Weekly Obsessions IV

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a fabulous week! This week was pretty good except Tuesday which happened to be the longest most Monday-est (yes I made that word up) Tuesday I’ve ever experienced. A few people in my office said the same thing. Did anyone else feel that way? This weekend I’m getting a haircut for the first time in an embarrassingly long time. Let’s not judge people! Plus Alex and I have a dinner date so I’m pumped! Have a great day πŸ™‚

Let’s round up the few things I’ve been obsessing over before the weekend kicks off though.

Blogilates

Since I don’t own any workout equipment due to lack of storage space, I have been relying on workout videos that don’t require any equipment. With just my bodyweight, I have gotten some tough workouts in. I do the videos after my runs and vary what part of my body I’m working on.. Blogilates has been my favorite this week! Cassey has a ton of videos at varying lengths. It’s awesome because I can either do a long one or play a few shorter ones right after one another. I use Chromecast to stream from my phone which is super helpful so I don’t have to stare at my phone screen. The one I linked above is a short video to Shape of You by Ed Sheeran that’s all squats…my legs were actually shaking midway through!

Shorts Weather

img_6216
Accidentally wearing red, white (peep the top of my sock) and blue. Go Team USA!

Why yes it is the middle of February and I just typed out that I’ve been loving shorts weather. I know the warm weather now just means we’ll get another snowstorm but I’m going to savor it anyways. I was able to wear shorts and a short sleeve shirt for my tempo run yesterday. It felt hot and for a bit I contemplated pausing to just run in a sports bra for a while but that seemed a little much. It was amazing! My legs got to breath and get some sun. Now I’m so excited for spring and summer running.

Valentine’s Gifts from Our Parents

img_6222

When I checked the mail last night, I saw a card from my parents for Valentine’s Day which was super cute. They even included a Starbucks gift card. Woohoo!! Who doesn’t love free coffee? I love stopping for coffee and realizing I don’t have to spend my money since a gift card is in my wallet. Alex’s mom also dropped off a little gift for the two of us – chocolate covered strawberries and some fancy soap that is too pretty to use. It was so sweet of both our families to think of us and make us feel extra love yesterday.

Winter Olympics

I love the Olympics. Earlier this week, I told Alex that I am an expert for whatever sport we are watching for the next two weeks. Kidding but seriously I feel like I learn so much every year about the sports and then carry that knowledge over to the next games. All of the athletes are crazy talented! For every event I see, I am just amazed at how effortless everything looks. This week has been a good one for Team USA between Shaun White and Chloe Kim on the half pipe for snowboarding and Mikaela Shiffrin winning gold for giant slalom (plus more!) it’s been an entertaining week for sure.

Weekly Obsessions III

Woohoo it’s Friday! Who is excited for the weekend?! I’m working from home today and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited. I may even get my run done during lunch but we shall see. I hope you all have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

Clarisonic Mia 2

IMG_6156

I got my Clarisonic for Christmas 2015. It was a Christmas present that I knew was coming since I was the one that bought it ha! In my defense, my friend works for L’Oreal (did you know they own about 124685 different cosmetic brands?) so it was much cheaper to buy it through her at the company store and then have my parents pay me back. Anyways, I stopped using it back around Christmas since the battery died and I forgot to charge it. Well I plugged it in this week and it’s been great! The first night I used it, the dry skin on my face was less noticeable and it felt like my moisturizer was able to sink into my skin more easily.

Leftovers

IMG_6117

This might seem like a weird thing to be obsessed with but seriously it’s been amazing. I made a big sausage and potato dish on Saturday night knowing there would be leftovers for multiple meals. Plus we had a ton of leftover chicken from burrito bowls on Monday so I haven’t had to cook since then. Sometimes you need a week with minimal cooking!

The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell

FullSizeRender

This book was really intriguing from the start. I saw some mixed reviews about the end so I was dying to see what the end was. This book sucked me in from the start. It was Suzanne Rindell’s first novel and I have to say it was a hit! The ending is definitely something I can see people having different opinions on. Personally, I’m still not sure what happened but in a good way! If you read this book, we will have to discuss to compare our thoughts.

The synopsis from Barnes & Noble’s website “Confessions are Rose Baker’s job. A typist for the New York City Police Department, she sits in judgment like a high priestess. Criminals come before her to admit their transgressions, and, with a few strokes of the keys before her, she seals their fate. But while she may hear about shootings, knifings, and crimes of passion, as soon as she leaves the room, she reverts to a dignified and proper lady. Until Odalie joins the typing pool. As Rose quickly falls under the stylish, coquettish Odalie’s spell, she is lured into a sparkling underworld of speakeasies and jazz. And what starts as simple fascination turns into an obsession from which she may never recover”

Cashews

IMG_6159

I bought this bag to make trail mix…except I ended up digging into before then. Cashews are my weakness currently. I grab a few when I want a little snack before or after dinner but don’t want to make a mess but want something healthy. If I’m going to have an actual snack with these, I will take an actual portion. I prefer the unsalted variety since I think salted nuts are waaaaay to salty. Anyone else think they should make a lightly salted version of roasted nuts?!

Weekly Obsessions

Weekly Obsession II

Happy Fri-yay! It has been a crazy week and I definitely learned to not be hard on myself about my typical routine. Work was back to normal hours yesterday which was good but I’m ready for the weekend! Fingers crossed the work day flies by for us all. Have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

Dinner With Coworkers

As I have previously mentioned, my boss and the other packaging engineer on the team were in New Jersey this week. On Wednesday night after some loooong work days, the three of us went out to dinner with someone else we work with. Even though I wish I wasn’t having such a bad week at work, having all of us there to blow off some steam was great. Plus getting to see my boss outside of work since I don’t see him much was a bonus. We went to Triumph Brewing Company in Princeton and spent at least 3 hours all talking and hanging out. Going out with coworkers and a beer or two is a great way to get to know each other better which I thought was exactly what the four of us needed.

Vintage Seltzer

img_6036

I don’t drink pop really. Yes I call soft drinks pop, it’s a Midwest thing. Very randomly I’ll drink it but I just don’t really like it anymore! Usually I just drink plain old water. That gets boring after a while so I’ll switch it up to seltzer. It’s safe to say Alex and I are both obsessed with Vintage! No seriously obsessed, we bought 48 bottles one day. It’s the best seltzer that we have tried (and we’ve tried a lot!). There’s no syrupy flavor to it which is the best part. Lately I’ve been sipping on raspberry lime but I love mandarin orange, pomegranate and lemon lime as well.

Help Without Asking

img_5464

With the long work hours (sorry to continuously bring it up…) I did next to nothing throughout the week in terms of chores. Wednesday night, Alex managed to check our mail (we’re horrible at doing that), vacuum the apartment, make lunches, prep coffee and tea for the morning, and emptied all the garbage cans without me asking. He also tidied up all the tax documents that I’ve been getting in the mail so I can easily send them to my Dad. He is the best my friends ❀

Maybelline Master Conceal Concealer

Maybelline Concealer

If I had to pick one makeup item to only use I would either pick concealer or mascara but I think I would pick this product! This concealer from Maybelline is amazing. It covers up so much with just the tiny amount. The tube lasts forever too and it’s super portable if you like keeping something with you for touch ups although I find that it lasts all day on my skin. The formula is really lightweight as well so I don’t even feel it on my skin. Plus it’s drugstore so you can’t beat the price.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

img_5543

Technically this isn’t something I ate this week but I’m obsessed with buffalo chicken and who doesn’t love a good dip? Since the Super Bowl is this weekend, I wanted to share a dish I think you would all love. If you know me then you know I love hot sauce and buffalo chicken. About two months ago I made this buffalo chicken dip and I might make it again for the game Sunday. I thought I’d share it in case you are stuck on what to make for your viewing.

Weekly Obsessions I

Happy Friday! How was your week? Personally I had a great week so I hope you did too. Have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

I’ve been reading blogs for a while and most people share some things they’ve been loving on Fridays to end the week. When I had my moment of inspiration on Wednesday, I wrote down favorites post on my list of blog ideas. Now why it took my so long to put together sharing a weekly post is beyond me. But I decided to start sharing my weekly obsessions with you all. Please let me know what your thoughts are in the comments.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

img_5997

I finished this book Wednesday night and loved it! I hated ever time I would have to stop reading since the story sucked me in and had me trying to figure out what would happen. My library had a sticker on it to signal it’s science fiction. While this is true due to some out there physics (which is kept at a minimum and explained well!), it’s definitely a thriller in my opinion.

Jason Dessen is a physics professor living in Chicago with his wife and their son. One day he gets taken and wakes up in a different world where he is single and has won a prestigious award for his scientific research. He wants to get back to his family and life he has grown to love. The entire time he is trying to figure out what happened was really intriguing. While I’m an engineer, I actually hate physics and struggled my way through it both in high school and college. Personally I didn’t find the science portion of the book to take away from the story and thought Blake Crouch incorporated it in a way that lets the reader understand it without needing a PhD.

Oranges

img_6016

I’m pretty sure I forget how good oranges are when it’s not peak season. For whatever reason, I thought about them last week and picked a few up at the grocery store. When I bit into it on Tuesday, I was reminded why they are so delicious. I ate it way to quickly but I couldn’t help myself since it was so juicy and flavorful. I ended up eating one as a post run snack yesterday and it was delicious! I’ll be stocking up when I hit the store tonight for sure.

Thinking Positively

This past week, I’ve been trying to see the positive side of things and being more optimistic. By no means was I a negative person before but I’ve seen myself making this shift to a more positive mindset. It has honestly be so nice to dwell on the good more than the bad. For example. Alex’s job requires him to be at networking events a lot and when he first started, it honestly sucked. I hated being alone and feeling like I was sitting in silence the whole night. Now I look at it as a time for me to have my own personal concert while I do things around the apartment, being able to do a face mask without being teased and just having a little me time. That’s just one example but overall I’ve been loving it.

Sally Hansen Top Coat

img_6017

This clear polish is a current life saver for me. Starting at the beginning on December, my nails have had gel polish on them. I love a good gel manicure but I need to give my nails (and wallet!) a break every once in a while. The past week or so, I’ve been slowly picking at the gel as it became loose from my nails. I know it’s bad but it’s weirdly satisfying. Anyways, my nails need a little TLC. I didn’t want to start covering them with polish immediately so I looked in my makeup bag and found this clear coat. I’ve been putting it on every other day or so and it helps my nails looks less destroyed from the gel. Plus this dries so fast. I painted them and within a minute it’s completely dry.
