Weekly Obsessions XVII

Happy Friday! It’s going to be a wet weekend here in New Jersey but I honestly don’t mind. I feel like it’ll force me to get things done. Hopefully the sun will be shining near you though!

I want to share a few items that I’ve been obsessed with this week. Let me know something you’ve been obsessed with too.

The Script

I’ve been a fan of The Script for years and just adore their music. This past week I’ve been listening to all of their albums on shuffle. It’s soft enough that I don’t focus on it while I’m working but at the same time it’s not instrumental music and has a nice beat. One of my favorites has been Superheros. All of their music is good though and you should definitely check them out if you haven’t.

up & up Micellar Cleansing Water

up & up micellar cleansing water

Now that the weather is warming up, I want to take care of my skin a little extra. Running in the heat leads to more sweating which mixes in with the sunscreen I put on my face. Since I don’t want all that junk stuck in my skin, I’ve been using this micellar cleansing water from Up & Up that I picked up at Target. This stuff works! I haven’t had a pimple at all since I started using it. I remove my makeup and use my normal cleanser before drying my face. After shaking the bottle up, I put the product on a cotton ball and wipe all over my face. It gets any residual oil, dirt and makeup off without drying my skin. For under $5 you can’t beat it to make it feel like your face is fully clean.

Fresh Basil

Basil Plant

I’m happy to report that the basil plant I bought a few weeks ago is going strong. Not only is it still alive but it’s grown, woohoo! I’ve been adding it to as many dishes as possible recently. Dried basil is good but fresh is just next level. I may start cutting the leaves off the plant and save them to try homemade pesto. Have you ever done that? On one hand, I don’t want to cut off too many leaves that the plant dies but on the other hand fresh pesto sounds amazing.

Bananas

Bananas

I’ll bet someone that my parents are shocked that I’m saying I’ve been obsessed with bananas this week. For as long as I can remember, I never hate bananas because, and I quote, “the texture freaked me out”. Well my taste buds have changed you guys because I now like bananas.ย Mom and Dad that’s probably the little quake you felt ๐Ÿ˜‰ย I noticed that I prefer when they’re a little brown, slightly mushier and they seem sweeter to me too.

5 Things I Always Buy Name Brand

Hello and happy hump day! We’re already halfway through the week which seems crazy to me.

When I was grocery shopping and cleaning out the cabinets the other day, I realized there are a few items that I always buy name brand. Now I’m all about saving a dollar here and there on generic items but sometimes the extra money spent on name brand items is worth it in my opinion! So today I’m sharing five food items that I always buy name brand. Let me know if there’s anything you always buy name brand in the comments!

Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps Pretzels

img_6732

One time I bought the generic brand of pretzels because they’re about half the price of Sneyder’s pretzels. Let’s just say there’s a reason they are cheaper and not a good reason. The store brand just tasted stale to both Alex and I so you couldn’t eat them alone. Hummus or peanut butter was a must. We were both very happy to finish so we can go back to our beloved Sneyder’s. Without fail, the pretzels are perfectly cooked and the right amount of salt. When they’re on sale we stock up and our cabinet is overflowing with them.

Dannon Oiko’s Triple Zero Greek Yogurt

Oikos Peach Yogurt

This Greek yogurt is the healthiest Greek yogurt I have found. There is no added sugar or artificial sweeteners in it which is amazing. So many flavored yogurts have sugar as one of the first three ingredients and in my opinion that defeats the purpose of having yogurt. There’s also 15 grams of protein in them which is great. The yogurt is actually blended which gives it a thick yet light texture. That’s probably a terrible explanation but just try it! My grandma even said it was good once I told her about it. My favorite flavors are peach, strawberry, mixed berry and vanilla. I eat one almost every afternoon at work as a pre-run snack. I don’t think I’ll stop buying Oikos Triple Zero yogurt for years.

Rotel Chipotle Diced Tomatoes with Green Chiles and Chipotle Peppers

img_6733

There are always a minimum of 2 cans of this in our cabinets. If we’re being real though there’s usually 4-5 cans. The local grocery store has a 5 for $5 deal on them so when I see that, I’ll stock up. I use these to make homemade salsa and the flavor of the Chipotle version is the best. The store brand just has one variation and in my opinion it didn’t have a ton of flavor and spice. It’s not worth the few cents I would save buying the generic can if I have to sacrifice flavor. Rotel diced tomatoes will forever be something I buy.

Martin’s Potato Rolls

img_6736

Alex introduced me to potato rolls since they’re his preferred bun for burgers, hot dogs, brats, and Italian sausage. I tried the store brand version of them and they did not freeze well at all. We don’t go through a pack of buns fast enough to keep them in the cabinet so we keep them in the freezer and just take two out to defrost when we need them. The flavor of Martin’s potato rolls is so good even after being frozen. They’re just as soft when you defrost them as when you buy them too which I like. If I gave you one from the freezer and one that I had just bought from the store you wouldn’t be able to tell which was which. When I noticed them on sale, I buy a few packs to have on hand.

Tea

img_6734

I drink tea every day. Alex occasionally drinks it as well so I grabbed a box of the generic store brand tea once. The tea was almost flavorless if that makes sense. It just made the hot water taste kind of different but the tea flavor wasn’t strong. I ended up using two tea bags in every mug so that I could get flavor and use the box faster. Instead of saving a dollar or so by buying the generic brand, I grab the “Club Sized Savings” box that our local grocery stores offer for Lipton. Just one tea bag gives me the exact flavor I’m looking for in tea. Plus it makes good iced tea as well.

Weekly Obsessions

Weekly Obsessions XVI

Hello and happy Friday! How are you all doing today? It’s Friday so I’m feeling pretty good myself. The past week has been pretty good but there’s nothing like the weekend.

I’m kicking off the last few hours of work by sharing a few items I’ve been obsessed with this week. Have a great Friday ๐Ÿ™‚

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes

img_6682

If you saw yesterday’s post then you probably aren’t surprised that this showed up on the list this week! The novel is about a painting that was done by a French artist of his wife, Sophie. She brings the painting from Paris to her hometown in France during World War I. The town ends up being occupied by Germans. Fast forward to 2006 and a widow, Liv, has the painting in her house. The artist’s family wants the painting back and goes through an organization that specializes in the requisition of stolen or lost works of art.

One of the biggest reasons that I liked this story is because I feel like you mostly hear about stolen works of art form World War II but it happened during WWI as well. Historical fiction is a genre that I love and when the story is interwoven between two time periods I can’t get enough. Jojo Moyes is also the author of Me Before You so if you enjoyed that popular book then I recommend checking this one out as well!

Strawberries

img_6572

A week or so ago, I noticed strawberries were on sale at the grocery store so I picked them up just hoping they would be ripe. I have no idea when strawberry season is but I think it’s now because the berries I’ve been buying are delicious! For a midmorning snack at work, I’ve been cutting up a few strawberries and putting them in a container.

Spring Plants

Pink Tree At Tamarron

I have no idea what type of tree this is to be honest but I love the pop of pink it adds to everything! These trees are all over our apartment complex which makes walks and runs fun. It’s not just these trees though, when I drive I see other flowers blooming. It’s been putting a big smile on my face because it means spring is officially here!

My Top 10 Favorite Foods

Happy hump day friends! I hope your week is going well so far. A few weeks ago, I saw Erinn write about her top 10 favorite foods which seemed like a fun idea to me. So today I’m sharing with you my top 10 favorite foods. Well my top 10 as of right now because they could change. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

Fresh Blackberries

  1. Fresh from the farm fruit – there’s something so much better about fruit straight from a farm or apple orchard than when it’s bought at the grocery store

2. Peanut butter – I can eat spoonfuls of it!

3. Pizza

4. Italian beef – a Chicago staple

5. Popcorn

6. Ice Cream – especially chocolate peanut butter flavored

7. Fresh baked bread

8. Buffalo chicken

9. Chicken Caesar salad

10. Roasted potatoes

It was so hard just picking 10 foods! I had so many that I could have put so maybe I’ll check back in a few months down the road if my list has changed.

Happy Fri-yay! I’m pretty excited for this week since the weather is supposed to be nice and I’m definitely ignoring that there’s a chance of rain this weekend. Slowly my allergies/cold/whatever the heck hit me have gone away so fingers crossed I don’t sit on the couch all weekend either.

I’m sharing a few things that I’ve been obsessed with this week today. Tell me something that you’ve been obsessed with this week down in the comments. Have a great day ๐Ÿ™‚

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

img_6594

I bought a tiny trial size of this cream in March of 2017 to bring with me to Europe and loved it. Then I bought a big tube when I got home and just kind of forgot about it. When Alex and I were cleaning our bedroom a few weeks ago, I discovered the almost empty full size tube and said I should just finish it since I bought it. Since starting back up with it I have no idea why I stopped using it in the first place. It’s so good! It’s a medium to full coverage cream that is light on the skin. The product lasts all day on my skin and has held up fairly well to lots of nose blowing too.

Where They Found Herย by Kimberly McCreight

img_6585

Since Alex asked me to read The Fountainhead, I wasn’t really enjoying reading. Not that there was anything wrong with the book! It just hadn’t grabbed my attention like my typical books do. To get back into reading, I took a break from The Fountainhead and found this one in my stash of books to read. It has me hooked!

The story follows Molly who had a stillborn child and moved to the suburbs of New Jersey with her husband and their young daughter. She is working as a reporter for the local paper and gets a call from her boss one morning saying a body has been found near the outskirts of the towns prestigious university. When Molly gets to the crime scene, she finds out the body belongs to a small baby girl. The story follows Molly trying to deal with the emotional distress of covering a topic that caused her to get depressed while a few other characters have some plot lines in the book as well.

Chats With Dad

I was talking to my Dad last night about a few things and I kind of forget how nice calls to the family are. Don’t take this as we never talk, our family group message is used at least once of day! Sometimes though, it’s easier to just text my Dad instead of calling him since he travels for work and I never know if he’s traveling or even what timezone he’s in haha. When we were talking last night it made me so excited for our trip to Chicago that’s coming up.

Last Minute Ice Cream Date

img_6597

It was over 90 degrees in New Jersey yesterday. Yes you read that correctly – 90 degrees in May! After dinner, Alex suggested a family trip to the ice cream place in town. You don’t have to twist my arm for that ๐Ÿ˜‰ We leashed up Bailey and drove over. There were a decent amount of people and Bailey was too busy sniffing to try and lay down or sit while we ate so we brought the ice cream home. It was fun to just randomly go out and get something sweet on a hot night. I got Fly Fishing Fudge which was vanilla ice cream with chocolate chunks, M&Ms, cookie dough pieces and chocolate swirls in it. I picked the name on a whim but it was delicious! Alex got Mint on Maine which was mint chocolate chip and oh so tasty too.
