My Brain Is Fried

Happy hump day friends! I hope you are all having a good week thus far. Have a great day πŸ™‚

I’ve been really enjoying waking up early and it rushing in the morning so I decided to wake up at my normal time instead of sleeping in. Don’t worry though, I laid in the comfy hotel bed instead of jumping right up πŸ™‚ I got ready then headed to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. How cute is the tea setting?? I love the rock candy instead of normal sugar. I got what they called the country breakfast which was two scrambled eggs, potatoes, chicken sausage and toast. So much food and I couldn’t even eat half.

Work was a lot to say the least. Starting a new job is basically information overload so I knew this would be the case. I’m not even going to pretend that I regained all of it. I don’t think anyone could. My boss, the other packaging specialist and I stopped midday for a lunch break. I had a Monterey Jack chicken salad. It was delicious! There was romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, a little bacon, cucumbers and Monterey Jack cheese. I used a little salsa as the dressing which gave it a good spice to it.

After work I needed a break so I went back to the hotel for a bit. I had a call with my coach about the 10 mile race I have this weekend. We planned a race strategy and I’m so excited. I waked to a restaurant that was a few blocks away from my hotel to get a little exercise. The downtown area has scarecrows set up along the street that have been decorated by local businesses and groups. The cow one is my favorite!

The restaurant, Penny Black Grill and Tap, had a fire pit outside that I sat at. It was so nice! The pit was pretty relaxing and set a great mood while I read and waited for my food. I gotten a barbecue chicken flatbread with Brussels sprouts on the side. So tasty!

I walked back to the hotel and decided to read a few chapters in the hotel’s library. I feel like the hotel used to be an old prep school or something like that. How pretty is this room?

Traveling always makes my skin freak out and since I’m dealing with acne right now (just keeping it real) I wanted to try and combat the effect of travel. Sheet mask for the win! While it sat on my face, I watched “Shark Tank” and “Chopped Junior”.

Question of the day: Tell me anything! My brain is so fried and I’d love a break from work talk πŸ™‚

My New Running Buddy

Happy Tuesday! I just want to say thank you for the well wishes for my new job. I was a little nervous to share because to leave a job after 5 months (especially your first job after college) is pretty unusual but you guys are the best!! Have a great Tuesday πŸ™‚

My commute to work was a little longer than normal considering I flew my Newark to Detroit. Luckily my flight wasn’t until 9:50 am so I didn’t have to wake up any earlier than normal. Once I was up, I got dressed and finished packing the last few items. I made up a filling breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon. I kissed Alex goodbye then headed out the door.

Driving to the airport meant getting stuck in some rush hour traffic of people going to New York City. I made it to the gate with extra time to spare thanks to TSA Precheck for security. The last time I flew, I brought a reusable water bottle to save some money but forgot to grab it this time. Since I’m constantly drinking, I bought a water bottle before boarding. A sweater (or blanket scarf) and water are some of my travel must haves!

I landed in Detroit and my lord it was cold! Yes I know, 55Β° is not that cold but after having temperatures in the 70s/80s for weeks, that was a drastic change.

I drove to the office my boss is located at and we went to lunch. I had a turkey wrap with mustard, spinach, lettuce, pickles and cucumbers. So tasty after a morning full of travel!

The afternoon was a bit of a worldwind with meeting a TON of new people and learning more about what my team does. My boss’s wife is traveling this week so he has double the parental duty so I left shortly after 4. So far so good at the new job!

My boss told me about a running trail right by the hotel I’m at. I wasn’t sure if it would be a good place to run but decided to try it out. I figured worst case, I would turned around and just run on the hotel’s treadmill. The trail was stunning! So many people out on it so I felt safe the whole time. I even made two new friends while on it. The deer were so close, if they were any closer then they would’ve been on the trail. I did get a few weird looks since I was running in shorts and a t-shirt. That’s what happens when you don’t check the weather before packing, oops.

After my run, I showered and started researching restaurants in the area. I found a Mexican restaurant and it looked good. The food was great! They made the salsa table side which I had never seen before but it was SO good! While eating all of the chops and salsa, I read my book. I never know what to do when I’m at a restaurant by myself so I probably look like a weirdo. For my meal, I had chorizo enchiladas. Unfortunately the chorizo wasn’t as good as I though it would be but oh well. It was still good and filling!

I spent the rest of the night in bed watching tv. Does anyone else get into House Hunters and then get annoyed when the person complains about the paint color in a room? (Just buy a gallon of paint!) No it’s just me? Okay. I watched that and Shark Tank for a while before heading to bed.

Question of the day: What do you do when you eat out by yourself? I always feel awkward and don’t know what to do with myself!

Sunday In Pictures + A Change

Hello and happy Monday! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog today. It means the world to me. Have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

Today starts a new chapter in my life. I am starting a new job! I realize it’s a little unconventional to start your second job after graduation only a few months later. The first job was one that I was at part time starting in February while I finished school and went full time after graduation. For various reasons, I left the company. A recruiter contacted me about the new position back in July and after a few months of interviewing and working out details, I accepted the position. I can’t wait to see where this change takes me and am very excited!

Here’s my Sunday in pictures:

Bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast with cranberry green tea. I hadn’t had this breakfast in forever.

A t-shirt dress and grey boots. If I break out the boots, it’s officially fall!

A trip to Target to pick up necessary travel size toiletries.

Alex got to pick what we had for lunch. Good old Kraft mac n’ cheese on a grey day.

Our newest addition to the apartment, a fireplace tool set and log holder from Home Depot. Hopefully this means cool weather will come and stay!

I sipped on an Arnold Palmer from Wawa while cleaning around the apartment. . They have the best diet peach iced tea. It smells like you cut into a peach.

Packing for my business trip to Detroit. Only I would start a job and have to travel on the first day πŸ˜‰

An apple and peanut butter is the perfect afternoon snack. The sweet and salty combo will never get old.

I made Alex lunch for the week to be nice since he works long hours. Also he buttered me up and says I make the best sandwiches and he can’t make them as good.

Playing with my bff Annie at Alex’s parents house after a delicious steak dinner.

Question of the day: Tell me a high from your Sunday!

Reading + Pizza

Happy Sunday! I hope you are all having a great weekend so far. Have a great day πŸ™‚

Saturday morning, Alex and I got up at 6:30 or so. He was meeting with someone for coffee for work and I wanted to head out on my run while he was gone since we were still at his grandparents. The area they live in is SO hilly! You guys, there was a hill that I honestly felt like I was walking up because it was so steep. I really had to push myself on those miles but I have a feeling I’ll feel stronger soon.

His grandpa made us blueberry pancakes that were delicious! Alex’s aunt and uncle came over for breakfast as well, so the 6 of us chatted for close to two hours. After they left, Alex and I packed up and talked to his grandma so more before leaving. It was really nice to see them since they are leaving next weekend for Florida. We drove by this house and had to stop for a picture. It is gorgeous and now I want to live there ha!

We grabbed some sandwiches near our apartment for lunch since it was after 1. I had a cheesesteak with ketchup and hot sauce. I really need to find a recipe and good bread to make cheesesteaks at home. It seems like they would be simple to make but who knows.

After we ate, Alex had some work to do for both school and his job so I read on the couch. I finished “Play Dirty” by Sandra Brown and enjoyed it. If you are looking for a good thriller, I would check out her novels. Once that was done I started my next book, “All Things Cease to Appear” by Elizabeth Brundage. A husband comes home to find his wife murdered and their three year old daughter alone. He is immediately a suspect (as is typical in that type of situation). Somehow three orphaned boys story is wrapped up into this and I want to know how.

For dinner, I made us a pizza. At the grocery store last week, the premade pizza crusts were on sale so I picked a few up and placed the extras in the freezer.Homemade pizza is seriously so easy and quick to assemble, unless you buy actual dough and don’t have a rolling pin. We topped it with cheese and pepperoni and it was delicious!

Both of us were kind of fried from the day so we had a low key night and just hung out.

Question of the day: What do you put on pizza when you make it at home?

Free Friday

Happy Saturday! What’s on your agenda for the day? Whatever you are doing, I hope it’s a great day πŸ™‚

Friday started off bright and early. I tried to wait up for Alex on the couch last night while I read my book, but ended up falling asleep. By the time he got home, woke me up and we both got in bed it was almost 11:45 which is so late for us! Luckily, waking up wasn’t too hard. I got ready and made some breakfast. I scrambled an egg and cut up an apple.

I had the day off of work so I lounged on the couch for a bit because I’m lazy to let traffic die down from rush hour. I figured since I had the day off, why not go grocery shopping for the week. I made my list and head out the door. Normally I just go to the local grocery store that is closest to our apartment but yesterday I made the drive to Trader Joe’s. On the drive, I had some Welch’s fruit snacks so I had a more full stomach. Seriously I could buy everything in the store. It all looks so good!!

I stopped off at our normal grocery store to get a few items that TJ’s doesn’t carry before heading home. Once the groceries were put away, I grabbed my lunch. Thursday night I was on auto pilot because I packed myself a lunch as if I were going to work, oops! I ate it while watching the final episode of “Big Little Lies”. After watching the whole thing, I think I prefer the book more. Just my opinion though πŸ™‚

Alex likes to have trail mix as a snack while working but buying the premade kind is expensive! I grabbed all of the ingredients while shopping and made it myself. I put a pound of unsalted cashews, a pound of salted peanuts, half a package of raisins, and  1 cup of M&M’s into a big mixing bowl. Obviously I had to perform quality control and it passed with flying colors!

I watched some tv before packing an overnight bag for Alex and I. He had a networking event in Philadelphia and we decided to stay the night at his grandparents house before the go to Florida for the winter. While Alex was at the event, I grabbed a skinny chai tea latte and read in Starbucks. I wish I know how to make tea lattes at home. They’re such a creamy way to enjoy tea.

Alex finished to his event and we drove to his grandparents. His grandma was sweet enough to have dinner ready for us. She made a chicken casserole with some jasmine rice and salad. Then for dessert, she had an apple spice cake. The cake had apples, dried cranberries and some sort of chopped nut in it. We chatted with his grandparents for a few hours before heading to bed.

Question of the day: What’s your go to Starbucks drink? I either have an unseeetened iced tea (if it’s hot outside) or chai tea latter.
